Bortles Looking Better

Quote:I feel like there's a chance for Bortles, if he puts the work in.  He needs to make California his second home.  We've seen flashes of his brilliance. The TD against the Packers comes to mind.  We need to see more of that - now.

Agreed. Hopefully, he can turn it around. I would HATE to have to go shopping for another franchise QB. It's completely nerve racking and it rarely ever seems to work out for teams on the first try. We've been trying ever since Brunell left.

This is exactly how I feel. I really want Blake to come back and kill it.

It's not bline hope and I'm not over the top with optimism, but I would love it as much as anyone if he could put up impressive numbers in 2017.

80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics...

I also go back to his two games under Marrone - Titans and Colts. He was pretty good. Especially the Titans game. He definitely outplayed Mariota, who looked like Bortles in that game.

He did look better under Marone.

Much better.

It almost seemed to me like Blake had a different and higher level of focus under Marone.

Which is understandable because I hear Marone is a much tougher guy than gus.

I also in my mind keep going back to Blakes own statement where he basically admitted he NEEDS a discipline oriented hard nosed coach and that's all he's ever had.

So I think he very well may shine next year

I'm not oblivious to the fact that it might not happen though. If he is broken, we will have to find a new franchise QB and I believe the 2018 draft will have some good ones.

I agree.. I'm willing to start him in 2017, though.

Definitely. I would like to bring in a veteran to at least push him, but that is looking less and less likely. Some guys need to be pushed to bring out their best, but he has no competition at all on this team, as it stands.

I still really wanna see Allen take a load of snaps in pre-season. Maybe splitting it with Blake so we can see Blake's (hopeful) improvement.

Ehh no not really. Theres so many ither factors that go into all of that that the record isnt a good indicator of much.

Blake will hopefully turn it around.  I just see so many people looking ahead at other prospects, this year and next, that it just seems people have already written him off entirely.  Its still cute to see those saying they are wanting these future prospects yet still say they want bortles to succeed.  Pick a side either ride with the man through 2017 or start digging deeper into your prospects.

I just see confusion with all of this both sides of the fence crap.

I'd like that too, but I just don't think it's gonna happen. I think we'll see a ton of Chad Henne in the preseason and Allen may see the field for less than a quarter on average.

Because true fans don't want own qb to tank.  However, how come a backup plan is acceptable everywhere else?

Ivory and Yeldon have failed? replace Fournette (not my choice)

Line fails?  replace

Te Fails? replace

Secondary fails? replace

See the pattern?  Yet our qb who averages 4 wins a season?  Irreplaceable why?

Yup, what if in way the jags already have a romo on their roster. Maybe brandon allen is that romo, a 6th round qb that becomes a star, romo an undrafted that became a star.

I'm not sayin that he is irreplaceable.  I'm just saying we drafted allen and have resigned Henne, AND, with the FA moves of the Franchise i see Bortles 2017.  With the rising noise of the 2018 QB class i see the organization going backup or new starter next year not this year.

With all that said, i would much rather focus on every area BB5 needs to improve on but thinking 2 years ahead is like saying your giving up this year and just waiting till next before the season even starts because you feel our QB will fail which means our team will likely fail.  Eh do ya'll.

Because finding a franchise QB is so hard to do. If you have a QB that even shows a remote possibility of succeeding, you tend to give him more slack. Everyone knows how hard it is to find a franchise QB. It could take years, because most QB's don't pan out. We've been looking for a franchise QB since Mark Brunell and the Browns have been searching far and wide, ever since their return to Cleveland. No one wants to go through that searching if they don't have to. As for other positions like RB, O-Linemen, TE and secondary, it's a lot easier to replace them than it is to find a franchise QB.............. alot! That doesn't mean they are easy to replace, they're just much easier in comparison to the QB spot. That's why QB's get more time.

Yup even getting a solid franchise Qb really only gives you about 10 years.  Sure there are guys that put up 15+  but the vast majority take 3-5 years to develop spend 7-10 years as a stud and spend 3-5 more on the steady decline.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

Because there was no Calais Campbell level free agent at the QB position this year.

Heck, Mike Glennon got a $15M per year contract.

Mike Glennon.

Wait.... franchise QBs are hard to find?!

No way!
