I dont know Mariota seemed like he would be great in Philly but as a Titan under a vertical passing attack how effective will he be?  He'll be more like another Vince Young or Colin K. or RG3 in that he'll get tons of attention his rookie year & maybe 2nd year if teams dont quickly learn how to defend against his style of running back that can throw.

 

I think Winston has a much better chance for the Bucs of having a long term success provided he can mature quickly and stay out of trouble off the field.

After viewing Titans OTAs, ESPN's Paul Kuharsky believes Marcus Mariota holds a comfortable lead over Zach Mettenberger.


Kuharsky says Mariota was "the best quarterback on the field," and "the gap wasn't a small one." Kuharsky believes long-suffering Titans fans should be "encouraged" at this stage of the process that beleaguered GM Ruston Webster finally got one right. If Ken Whisenhunt can turn in a respectable coaching job, Mariota should be an intriguing fantasy QB2 pick with low-end QB1 upside.

The news is what we expected, Jameis is a great prospect, has an incredible football IQ, can make all the throws, and has already on the respect of his teammates for his incredible work ethic.

 

The news on the other guy is that he has a camp body level arm, had success in a gimmick college offense that won't translate well to the NFL, and will make Wisenhunt's reputation as a miracle worker if he's even in the top 30 QBs this coming season. But he's a really nice guy.

JW will not have near the success with Tampa Bay that he had with FSU and we all saw what he was like when things weren't going well on the field those few times.

 

How JW handles the times when things don't go well on the field and losing all the games he will lose in Tampa, will show a lot about what type of QB JW will become. 

 

Of course "off the field" is another matter JW will have to keep under control also.

Mostly.  I think he has limitations to make the second and third read.  Physically he is more apt to tuck it and make something happen with his legs or to create space than read and react to the defense.  If he ever does mature (highly doubt it) and stays in the league, I think he'll struggle with NFL defenses.

I tend to agree with you that I don't anticipate he's going to mature to the point where he'll be an effective QB in the NFL.  They talk up his football IQ in the media. We'll see about that soon enough.
