Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame

#1

Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame

Koyack was in pass protection against Power 5 opponents more often than any other TE in this class. He only allowed three pressures for a 97.4 Pass Blocking Efficiency score.

I find it interesting that NFL.com stated that Ben would need to work on his pass blocking. How is 97.4 Pass Blocking Efficiently a weakness?

CBSSports gave him a B+. Below are their comments:

"Koyack has good size and athleticism on the field to be a downfield threat. He is a willing blocker who should be a better pro than college player."

The future TE2 of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Seems like depth behind Marcedes. I wonder how much 2 TE we run.

Given the investment in depth there, and Caldwell saying they can keep 5 TE, I'd say more than a little.

A backup TE for depth or certain packages like GoalLine more like a Kyle Brady type of TE.

The Jaguars drafted a WR (Neal Sterling, WR, Monmouth) who projects as a TE in the NFL followed by a True TE.

I think Ben Koyack is another late round steal for the Jaguars.

Because nfl.com analysts' opinions are no better than your average message board draftnik. Sometimes their write ups are as if they haven't even watched the prospect play. There's always a write up or two that claim a receiver's weakness is a lack of speed, even though the receiver runs a 4.3 with high agility scores.

Yeah, I can live with a Kyle Brady type of TE. ;-)

Exactly. This reminds me of Mayock questioning AJ Cann's power. After hearing that come over the TV, every last thing I learn about AJ Cann relates to him having exceptional power. I actually think Mayock noted the word "power" for the guy, and then later forgot why he noted it thinking he noted it as a question when really he noted it as a strength. It only makes sense that Mayock would error like this eventually considering he's trying to track hundreds of players every year.

Curious to know where Gus and Greg are going with the Offense. The position mix has me thinking of the possibilities.

LOVE THEM JAGUARS!

Koyack is an excellent value for the 7th round. He has a very good chance to make the roster, and, with development, make Lewis expendable in his well-rounded TE role.
