Grade Picks 1-3
|
Personally I'm extremely happy with our first three picks. I believe all 3 are a good combination of need and value. All 3 have come from good pro style programs and are high character guys with no red flags.
All are upgrades to the team Fowler - A. - talent wise was pretty much near to or on par with Williams but need wise LEO was far greater than 3 tech. Superstar potential, and can play all 3 downs. If given a more settled position than he got at Florida production will greatly improve. Yeldon - B+ - some think this was a reach, Dave had he rated in the top tier of running backs. No point risking not taking him if he's your guy. Complete back with much better vision, instincts, pass catching, blocking than any back selected after him in the draft. Not exceptional speed but Extremely elusive, and able to break tackles and gain an extra 2-3 yards on every run. Exceptional red zone conversion. LT loved the pick, as do I. Pro comparison to LeVeon Bell. Can't argue with that. Star potential AJ Cann - A - Exceptional value here and adds quality and by proxy depth to the OLine. Will beat out Beadles for the LG spot in my opinion. The line is really coming together. Has good first step power and stays on his blocks well. Will be a starter for 10 years. Big body which will offer Blake more protection and open big lanes for Yeldon I really liked our draft last year, and I think this years is also going to be a home run. All 3 picks should be starters and instantly improve us. I expect us to take Josh Shaw and convert him to FS in the 4th unless they really like Bennett (DT) or Clemmings (OT) We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'm happy with the picks.
Fowler- wasn't my first choice, but he was one of three that I would have been happy with. Yeldon- the thing I notice is his great lateral quickness and vision. He lacks straight-ahead speed, but the ability to make people miss is impressive. I see highlights of other backs running through huge holes and going 80 yards, but that's kind of pointless. It's college. I remember another back with great lateral quickness and a lack of straight-ahead speed, Emmitt Smith. Cann- this was a real surprise, because I was thinking of almost every other position, but I don't know why I didn't think they might address this position. I have always said offensive line is the most important part of a football team besides QB. My grade- I hate giving grades before guys have even played a down. But that's the thread. So I'll give them all an A.
Fowler (A+) - was not my first choice but we did get a player who will contribute and be a force.
Yeldon (B-) - quality player, but I question the choice at selecting him in the second. Cann (B+) - I thought there were more impactful players on the board, and quality OG could be found in round 4 or 5. The first pick I get. Our round 2 and 3, I understand why we took them, but don't understand what the FO saw or didn't see in other choices. Maybe we'll get to see the draft board after all of this is over and go, "Ahhhhhhhh...."
1. Fowler (A-): Many respected analysts had him as the best edge rusher in the draft, but he can also set the edge and play the run. High motor to make plays. Only slight knock for me is his lack of bigger sack numbers at the college level.
2. Yeldon (B-): Big back gives the Jags what they had hoped for in Gerhart. Good vision and able to hit the holes to get positive yards consistently. Grade lowered due to lack of long speed limits his upside in my mind, and his pass protection skills to protect Blake need developing. A slight reach, as I thought his quality of RB in this deep class could have been found in the 3rd round. 3. Cann (A): Picking a guard is never a glamour pick, but improving the line and depth has been a major need for this team to help Bortles and the RBs. AJ is a starting capable stout OG for the next 10 years, and was tremendous value in the 3rd round. I thought it interesting that the brass repeatedly mentioned his possibility to develop in a center also.
Fowler - A
Yeldon - B Cann - A+ Stefon Diggs or Shaw in the 4th I'm hoping

Trending up each pick as I said in the Cann thread:
C+ for Fowler: Solid starter, highly doubtful that his athletic profile will allow him to turn into a real star. The huge effort and intensity will keep him from being a bust. Safe single to lead off the inning. B- for Yeldon: Closest thing to a true 3 down back in this class after Gurley. Can block and catch well. Just bad positional value with very solid prospects available at far more important positions. Safe single as well. A- for Cann: Second best guard in this draft after Laken Tomlinson (until Scherff moves to OG of course), but for far better value. Not exactly a pressing need, but great value. This one's a triple to me. No real home run picks but Cann was close and the Jags definitely got better. Follows along w/ the Parnell signing, a lot of goons were added to the team. Definitely avoided a major screw up like taking Matt Jones or Ty Montgomery on day 2.
Fowler- A Many teams had him as the top player in the draft, over Leonard Williams. He's our LEO of the future. Plus with coaching from Gus Bradly and Todd Wash, he's going to be a stud.
Yeldon- D Dont like this pick. Cann- A Our o line should be good this year. Cann is a big big boy. He will be the LG. Seriously still don't get the Yeldon pick, he's not very good.

Fowler wasn't my first pick.....wanted Cooper but he was the best edge rusher in the draft and we certainly need that. I suppose when can address the alpha receiver next year in FA or draft. Yeldon looks like a high quality back that would work well in either blocking scheme. I think he will be effective especially with our new upgraded OL. Which brings me to Cann. Very happy with this one. Nice to get a starter in the 3rd round in a position of need. Bortles will not be running for his life all of the time. My grade: Triple A
1. Dante Fowler.(A+) While I'd been happy with Leonard Williams or Amari Cooper I believe Dante has biggest upside of any player in draft and feels bigger need.
2. TJ Yeldon.(C+) Well to be honest i don't love this pick. I was hoping for Tevin Coleman who brings more speed and is more of a down hill runner. I really thought Coleman,Jay Ajayi and Duke Johnson would get selected 1st. Ajayi obviously there are big injury concerns still waiting for day 3 selection. 3. AJ Cann.(B+)Oline needs as much debt and competition. Jaguars gave up 70 sacks last yr and haven't had strong run game in 3 yrs.Miss the days of Vince Manuwai and Chris Naeole! Cann and Linder sounds good. Now what about a WR like Justin Hardy or Jamison Crowder! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Fowler: B-. Dont think he will ever become an elite pass rusher. Just doesnt have the elite athletic traits to do so. But he will be solid and is still really young so whatever.
Yeldon: A-. I really didnt want to take a RB in the 2nd because I felt most of them wouldnt provide much of an upgrade over Denard, because the ones everyone was talking about have a very similar style to him. But Yeldon came out of nowhere, and it makes perfect sense. He can be the starter with the physicality to run in between the tackles and grind out yards, and also play 3rd downs and goal line. Denard compliments him perfectly. I hope we see something like 18 carries for Yeldon and 8-10 for Denard. Cann A+: No more Beadles. Thank god. Now the line is built to be a power running team like it seems like Gus wants. And tbh it needs to be because Bortles isnt gonna carry the team himself. Now he will have some protection, plus the ability to really work play action. This is my favorite pick of the 3.
Fowler - B+
Yeldon - B- Cann - B+ Yeldon is my least favorite pick (mainly due to the value. I felt 3rd round is where the RB value is), but once they got Cann in the 3rd, I get why they made the pick. You can clearly see the vision that Gus and Dave had. We drafted the best run support LEO, a big back, and another athletic physical G/C. Along with more 2 TE sets, no WRs drafted, I think this team is getting set to ground and pound and be physical.
Dante Fowler (A-) He has that all important "potential" but lacked production, should be a nice addition to the defense.
TJ Yeldon (C-) Very average committee runner at the nfl level who I thought struggled changing direction a bit despite popular opinion, and it's fair to criticize his lack of elite speed (im not even talking about his 4.6 40 times) .. I don't understand Dave/Gus' obsession with big power backs as feature runners. I don't really see Yeldon working well in a zone block offense. I think if he keeps his weight down, he could be successful AJ Cann (B+) Love his style of play, fast and violent. Doesn't always get up field and is a bit goofy at times. South Carolina isn't known for teaching good technique to it's lineman, so you can see that when you watch his highlights, so he needs a lot of technique work, Zane Beadles may not have a starting spot for too long Quote:1. Dante Fowler.(A+) While I'd been happy with Leonard Williams or Amari Cooper I believe Dante has biggest upside of any player in draft and feels bigger need. Glad you recognized Crowder, being a fan of Duke everything I have seen him play a lot and he is a game changer in the PR/KR game. He also has great hands and I believe can be productive in the slot if he gets a chance. It's possible he will still be there in round 6 or 7. We show less advertisements to registered users. Fowler - I love the pick. He is an incredibly heavy edge rusher with a variety of moves. He isn't a one trick pony like Beasley and he is a far superior run defender than Beasley too. Also, he has great marketing potential due to his personality which always helps when it comes to bringing in revenue.
Yeldon - I can't get excited about a back with his kind of ball security issues and the scouting reports on him are all over the map. One guy loves him and another thinks he is a late round talent. Cann - Physical linemen who uses his hands really well. He is a ironman only missing one game his entire college career. I think he'll go well with Linder.

All 3 have come from good pro style programs and are high character guys with no red flags.Yeldon was moving up on people's boards (sleeper pick where a lot of people are wondering why they didnt have him ranked higher on their boards) some thought he might go in the 1st round.. He was a decent pick.

A Fowler - most versatile defensive player with great intangibles and big motor.
A- Yeldon - good illusive runner - as others have stated not overly fast in a straight line. A+ Cann - I did not know this one before but from what I have seen seems to be a great addition to the Bortles protection club. |
