Caldwell loves guys from the state of Florida

#1

In 2013 and 2014, Caldwell took four players that played either high school or college football (or both) for a school in the state of Florida.

2013

Cyprien

Denard

Sanders

Evans

2014

Bortles

Linder

Telvin

Storm Johnson

And now one for one in 2015

Dante Fowler

So now it is 9 for 18 of his picks have Florida connections.

It reminds me of when Rich McKay was running the Bucs and had a core of players from Florida like Sapp, Brooks, Warrick Dunn, Reidel Anthony, Dexter Jackson and others.

Dave made a comment (in jest) last night at the draft party about not having to leave the state to find good players. There seems to be some truth to it.

Florida has always been a powerhouse for football players really.

Good, thats something that moron Gene Smith didnt do, draft players born in FL or players from FSU, UF or Miami and UCF only one player drafted from those schools

I wouldn't count high school in this as Florida sends a massive amount of kids to colleges all over the country. Most of Marshall University football is from Florida. It's a recruiting hotbed.

Recruiting hotbed... and easier, less costly in terms of time and money to scout.  Easier to put your eyes on a guy in person, in games.

And, you know the Florida guy can play in the heat.  This is why nobody from Montana State does any good here.

What's still amazing to me is Linder was the first Miami player ever drafted by the Jags

Pretty wild.  The Jags DO seem to like the Gator boys though....8 players drafted from there.

The only guys that look like they'll pan out so far are Telvin and Linder.

Did anyone else here Money point out all three of our draft picks are from the SEC?

1. Dante Fowler: Florida

2. T.J. Yeldon: Alabama

3. A.J. Cann: South Carolina

Lance Zeirlein, however, said although proximity does help, it did not play into David Caldwell's decision to draft SEC players.

After the last few seasons, the team must have had a bunch of Montana State players with that logic.

Gene Smith never drafted an SEC player. Think about that for a second and then wipe away the tears.

Some of the top schools in the nation are out of Florida so not really surprising. I'm not a huge SEC guy but no denying that there's a lot of talent there.
