Bortles #8 in QB prospect rankings since 2011

#1

Peter King talked to a NFL talent evaluator of an unnamed NFL team to list in order the QB prospects from 2011 based on the teams grade that particular year.  As you can see, Bortles came in 8th, behind Winston, Mariota, and Blaine Gabbert.

Here is the full list:

1. Andrew Luck
2. Jameis Winston
3. Robert Griffin III
4. Cam Newton
5. Blaine Gabbert
6. Marcus Mariota
7. Ryan Tannehill
8. Blake Bortles
9. Jake Locker
10. Teddy Bridgewater
11. EJ Manuel
12. Johnny Manziel
13. Brandon Weeden
14. Christian Ponder

I don't think this NFL talent evaluator is a fan of the Vikings QB draft selections.

I saw that earlier and stopped reading when I saw Gabbert at 5.

I don't think he is a very good talent evaluator.

Gabbert was widely considered the #1 QB of that draft.  It's not like Gene Smith went rogue on that one.

Gabbert was a better prospect, despite how he turned out. Not sure why this is so hard to grasp.

I think his rankings are spot on, ecept id have RG3 at #2

i mean, some people had him as the #1 qb, but the majority said Cam.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Yea it was weird.  What I remember is a lot of people saying Gabbert was the #1 QB, but still unanimously mocked Cam to go #1.   I think it was an upside thing.

The majority said Cam but getting Gabbert at #10 even with the trade was considered a very good move.

Widely is an exaggeration.  It was Newton who was widely considered the #1 QB prospect.

If you look at his film and stats, it's a head scratcher as to why he was even considered a first round prospect.  He had a strong arm and good size, that's it.

The hair. Gabbert as a prospect was 90% hair and 10% combine.

maybe like the winston/mariota thing right now. winston is pretty much mocked #1 by everyone but mariota is generally voted as a better player.

Nolan Nawrocki comes to mind as someone who had Blaine Gabbert as the top QB in the 2011 Draft.  He had Gabbert as his 8th overall rated player in that draft.

Sometimes players just flop. In 2012, Kiper listed his top 10 QBs ever evaluated

1. Elway

2. Kelly

3. Bledsoe

4. Peyton

5. Lead

6. Testavarde

7. Ware

8. Aikman

9. Esiason

10. Young

I actually heard a guy ( I don't remember who it was) on ESPN say that he thought Winston would have the better rookie season, but Mariota would turn out to be the better player long term.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Who is "Lead" at #5 supposed to be?

Is it Andrew Lead? Or someone else?

I'll never forget how shocked I was, AT THE DRAFT, when we took Blaine. My friends said my face was priceless.

OH, yeah, I guess it is.

I had completely forgot about Leaf.

He might as well be Ryan Lead.
