FS Damarious Randall
|
Mayock came out with his top five draft risers saying how scouts now see Randall as the best cover guy at the safety position in the draft. He was initially projected as a fourth round pick, but now appears to be a guy the Jaguars might want to consider as early as #36. Thoughts?

I really like Randall and would not mind him at #36 at all. He is pretty much what we are looking for at FS and he would be gone by our 3rd pick.
#36 seems too high for him but he'll be gone by pick #67. Hopefully we'll be able to pick up a couple of extra picks in between in order to get him.
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
I would rather Byron Jones over him, Randall is the best pure FS but his stock is higher due to it being a weak FS draft

There are whispers now that he will creep into the first round (I don't know how) to either the colts or some other team late in the round. Personally I don't see it. He's probably the worst tackler I've ever seen.
If Landon Collins slips to us at 36 then the Jags will have to take a hard look.
Crab Cakes and Football! That's what Jacksonville does!

I agree with the bolded. Regarding the former: Quote:NFL Comparison http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/landon-collins?id=2552454

Very good open field tackler and gunner. Above average coverage skills. Below average in plugging holes in the run game - not particularly physical in that aspect. The league seems to be intrigued by him - including the Jags. Polarizing on this board. Some like him in the 2nd, while others find him borderline undraftable.
I view him as a late 2nd to mid 3rd, but I think there are enough teams that like him that one will fall in love and over draft him in the late 1st to mid 2nd. Pretty much anytime I hear someone say a safety prospect is a combo safety that can play both positions, like Landon Collins, it really means they're going to be a strong safety at the next level. A true center fielder is going to be viewed exclusively as a free safety or even as a converted cornerback, like Damarious Randall and Eric Rowe respectively.
Landon Collins is becoming one of the most underrated players in this draft. No way does he fall to the 2nd round. Collins played both safety positions and excelled in both at Ala. Played single high safety a good bit also and is underrated in pass coverage. Sean Taylor and Ed Reed were some of those combo safeties to come out of college and both played SS their rookie years and then moved to FS. Collins had a faster 40 time than Ed Reed. In no way am I comparing him to Ed Reed or Sean Taylor but he is becoming underrated at this point and would be a huge upgrade over Evans. He can also knock your block off. I do see him as a poor mans Sean Taylor and if he is half the player Taylor was I would take him in the 2nd but no way does he fall that far.
Ideally, trade back with Jets to 6. Pick up their 2nd round pick. Trade their pick for a later 2nd round pick, plus a 4th. Use the later 2nd on Randall.

Been talking about him for a while in the safety threads. It's sounding awfully possible that he is the 1st safety off the board, perhaps well before we get a chance to grab him at 36.
