Dave has admittedly said his one regret is not keeping a big enough veteran presence on the team. Not that it's an excuse, but it seems he'll learn from it.

Force players to come here? Dave never tried, he didn't think it was important. He cut Daryl Smith and never tried to bring in some quality older vets for the younger guys to learn from. He even said himself that's one thing he regrets.

It's just a completely incalculable viewpoint, as we've discussed plenty before. 

 

Tons of players have developed well with great mentors.

Tons of players have failed with great mentors.

Tons of players have developed well with no mentors.

I'll stick with what we can measure, all of which pointed to what Beasley has become before Freeney entered the picture. I understand people want to grasp at reasons other than Caldwell simply blowing it by taking Fowler over Beasley, so if using the addition of Freeney as a mentor helps them do that then good for them.

Don't think I was in on that debate but having a HOF type vet pass rusher around to help young pass rushers can only be a good thing.

its common sense really. It goes with any profesion. If you have one of the best to teach you for you to learn from you will be much better than not.

EDIT:  I see it KY.  You feel that because leadership and mentoring can't be measured in a stat line, players who are great are more than likely on a path to success whether they had help or not just cause.  I understand that but without actually knowing the players to see whether thats truly real or not, is just spitting out an opinion and using it as fact.  WHY again is this an issue when he admitted he benefited from the help.  Did he already tell you he did it himself so he's just saying that to the media but you have the inside scoop.  I just wanna know so i can understand the point.

Because theres nothing wrong with having a good veteran, its mostly never a negative unless somehow you sign a vet whos straight up cancer. But it doesnt really make that much of a difference if the player is good to begin with, which beasley was. His success was never not going to happen based on the evidence that got him drafted to begin with. It just doesnt matter all that much but everyone wants to use it as a cop out for why fowler isnt or wont be as good when thats not his problem at all.
