Given Harbaugh's success at the NFL level, I can't imagine any college coaches having a better resume for a pro position.

These are the only two that come to mind for me too.

 

Harbaugh is a great signing by Michigan and something they needed to get that program back on track.

I put him in the category of Urban Meyer.  Good college coach, but I'd rather he coach someone else's team than mine.

Why do you think Harbaugh is shady? Are there any specific incidents from while he was at Stanford? Calling him shady is one thing, but putting him on the same level of shady as a guy like Urban Meyer has me scratching my head.

So you think Mark D'Antonio is a better coach than Jim Harbaugh, all other things being equal? Not only that, but you think there is a big gap between the two? What has Harbaugh done in the past few years to signify he is a significantly inferior coach to Mark D'Antonio?

He's going to be a constant pain in your rear end as the AD the whole time he's there always pushing for more and more control, at least that's my perspective of him. Now, maybe you can live with that kind of thing but he's left some fences in sore need of mending in his past.

 

He's going to recruit specific types of players and run a specific type of football and that's a good thing, but now he's going up against some very heavy hitters in the form of Ohio State, and the guy who runs a program that - in my perspective again - Harbaugh wants to have in Dantonio.

 

Would I want Harbaugh as my team's Head Coach? As a fan, sure why not? As an AD... I'd have to think long and hard about that.

Also you have to constantly deal with the chance of him bolting for the NFL if he is not happy and the right situation opens up.

Exactly. He's going to require constant love and attention and coddling and making sure that he feels welcome from everyone. Again, that's just how I see him, but for me I'd want my Program to have roots that run a bit deeper than that.

He seems to suffer from the same hubris, to a fault.

 

Seems to wear out his welcome alarmingly fast.

 

IMO, he's not even the best of the Harbaughs.  I'd much rather have his brother, John.  College or pro, high school or pee wee.

 

I believe he's extremely overrated.  He propped Stanford when the conference was about as weak as it gets.  He inherited a roster of pro bowlers in the NFL, then imploded along with it.  I honestly don't see what's so great about him as a coach.  He should do fine at Michigan, because recruiting is 3/4 the battle at the college level.
