NFL DRAFT UPDATE

#1

Randy Gregory has been popped for marijuana. Is this the last thing we need, having Blackmon and Pierce, both who our profiled by drug  and alcohol usage? Or should we embrace this and eventually become like Washington ( The State) and legalize marijuana so that our image isn't brought down? What do you think?

Haven't thought of it that way. Let me process all of this and get back with you.

Let's wait and see how Colorado and Washington state feel about their lax marijuana laws several years from now after statistics relating to societal detriment are known.

It is the timing that bothers me. He has also said he has trouble not smoking it which means he has some sort of compulsion where marijuana is concerned. Big fat no when it comes to drafting him.

I didn't want to sign him in the first place before I knew about this. Maybe grab him in the 3rd?

Let some other team draft him

I dunno. I might be in the minority here but I can appreciate that he can admit that he has trouble not smoking marijuana. This at least means he is aware of the issue and maybe...just maybe he might be more receptive to getting help with his issue as opposed to someone living in denial and never quite figuring it out. Having said that, I still wouldn't take him in the first based on this but I'd strongly consider taking a flier in the 3rd or 4th round if he happened to drop that far.

1. He won't drop that far. 2. Most teams would consider taking a flyer on him if he dropped to the 2nd round.

I have no problem with a guy getting popped for weed.  My problem is when toking up seems to be a priority.

Huh

A. This is not an NFL draft update.

B. Changing state law to accommodate a doping football player doesn't sound like a sound plan.

It really doesn't bother me with him. If we trade back I'd still take him.

Justin Blackmon, Matt Jones, Reggie Williams are still fresh memories.

Sure but I wouldn't let the faults of those players affect my talent judgement of Gregory. If we trade down to 10 or 15, you're looking for a pass rusher and he's there you pull the trigger. The draft as a whole is a gamble so I just cross my fingers and take the value pick.

I'd rather not go thru it again.  There is TONS of talent available at 10 - 15, i'm not going with a guy that has a well documented history of substance issues.  Learn from the past!
