Wes Welker - Slot option?

#1

So in news that totally escaped me, apparently Wes Welker is available. We're looking for a vet slot receiver, and Brady made Welker one of the best. Granted theres a concussion worry with him, but surely a 1 year deal would be good value for us?

Thoughts?

The only thing I could see welker bringing to the team is knowledge from a vet.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I think he is done. He is obviously on the downside of his career and he has had multiple concussions the last couple of seasons. Not to mention the suspension last year. No thanks.

Stick a fork in Welker. If the Broncos and Patriots don't want him, he's done.

I dont know if he would come here, but I would all for it on a 1 year deal, we have enough young WRs and a good TE that he wont be leaned on too heavy to have to worry about him getting injured.

We wouldn't be getting anything close to the Welker of 2012.  Not even remotely.  Veteran leadership is one thing.  This guy has seen his production fall off a cliff since leaving New England, and it's not like he went to a team that was trotting out a significantly less effective QB than Tom Brady.  He had a career year for TDs in 2013 with 10, and came back last season and scored twice.

There are probably better options out there that will present between now and the start of training camp. We don't have to sign what's out there today just to sign a veteran.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

He didnt do much with Manning throwing him the ball last year. Not a good sign. Good career. Tough guy. Wish him the best.

Welker doesn't belong in a slot position going over the middle of the field any longer.  For the safety of his brain, I hope his friends, family, and agent are giving him the right advice.

As consistent and productive as Wes Welker was as a WR,  if he would have come down with the 3rd Down reception in Giants territory in the 4th QTR in the 2011 season Super Bowl,   Welker probably would have been part of a Patriots winning Super Bowl team.   I was very surprised Welker didn't catch that ball,  when thinking about the more difficult balls he came down with during his career.

I completely agree with you and others who expressed that Wes Welker should retire for his own good.   Unlike so many other accomplished players,  at least Welker played in multiple Super Bowls.

It’s not hard to see why there’s not a lot of interest in Welker: He turns 34 years old this year and his production has steadily declined, from 1,569 receiving yards in 2011 to 1,354 yards in 2012 to 778 yards in 2013 to 464 yards in 2014. Last year he averaged a career-low 9.5 yards a catch. - From NBC Sports via the following link;

After reading a few more articles from rotoworld, ESPN, etc ... pretty sure his career has ended.

Taking a little guy with multiple concussions and putting him in the slot?  It might be the first time we see a player die on the field.

No thanks.

Washed up small ineffective receiver with concussion problems not playing with Brady or Manning, no thanks.
