Bortles Expectation? Will Joeckel be better? And if Blackmon returns?

#1

First and foremost Blake Bortles, the cornerstone of the Jaguars. What should we expect out of Bortles our starting QB entering into his second year? Should we compare him to other 2nd year QB's? Like Wilson,Luck,or Kaep? Should we continue to give him excuses if he don't succeed? Should we be patient? Or is it time for him to man up and take that next step? In my opinion I would like to see him take a step similar to Andrew Luck.I firmly believe his passing numbers, need to be somewhere in the 20 Td 10 int range and that's at the very least. I have faith in Bortles potential but not a lot of patience in it.

Secondly Will Joeckel be better next year? To me it was more like a rookie year for him, after being injured most of his first year. Joeckel got abused early on a lot at the beginning of the season, especially against JJ Watts. But as the season progress, it looks like he started making less mistakes and developing a little better. I'm still optimistic about Joeckel entering into this season.I hope the jags can add someone else at this position that would put pressure on him to be better.

Lastly Justin Blackmon, where is he?? Last I heard he was doing well in rehab, not sure if that still is the case, but if Blackmon returns, can we legitimately say that the jags have the potential now to be a playoff threat? I know that's a huge statement, but I'm looking at this strictly from a offense point a view.So lets say we had scored roughly 24-28 points in 5 of our games last year our record would have been 8-8. And I firmly believe JB can be that impact player along with JT to help the jags get to that 24 pts a game number. It would be icing to have JB back!

I personally try to shy away of the thought of expecting a certain stat line. I will say this though, I would definitely like to see a 3:1 or 4:1 TD/INT ratio this year. I think thats a standard that should be expected (if I'm not mistaken, QB's target a 5:1 or better). I think my only variable in regards to his development from last year to this year is that we're starting all over again with a different O scheme. I suspect the the addition of talent coupled with the experience of the new coaching staff brought in should negate some of that learning curve but I've also never had to learn, let alone, execute an NFL playbook. I consider myself somewhat patient so I'll be very happy with a recognizable progression from last season to this season and constant growth thereafter.

I fully expect the number of touchdowns to dramatically increase from Bortles. He is doing the right things off the field, The team is doing the right things in terms of getting him help, and these rookie receivers should know what a go route is now lol. I also expect high interceptions. 25 TDs to 15/20 ints is acceptable as long as he is slinging the ball with confidence, precision, and devoid of hesitation. Interception totals come down with experience.

Joeckel im expecting will be loads better with an offseason dedicated to muscle gain. Im sure David Caldwell has a master plan in place for his first draft pick.

Justin Blackmon (assuming he returns) will not be a factor this season but he could begin the process of returning to his old talented form. I expect him to compete and stay on the roster however.

Can't wait to see whats next.

This was a tweet sent by a guy who ran into Blackmon on Thursday:

He looks a bit pudgy I might add.

I like when people say "an off season dedicated to muscle gain" like these athletes can add 20 pounds of pure muscle in a season. Guys at this point in their strength training careers would be lucky add like 5 pounds of muscle if anything since their mostly close to their genetic limits, outside of steroids anyway.

Now weight/strength is different. But let's not pretend Joeckel is going to add 15-20 pounds of lean mass.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Joeckel can add 15-20 pounds of lean mass to himself, but the chances of that making him a better lineman would be slim. His frame, in my opinion, isn't the problem. He needs to instill a nasty streak instead, and that's mental..

I think that's just the way he always looks or stands.... Something. That guy makes him look small though haha

He does not look anywhere close to being a professional athlete at this point lol.

I hope Blackmon has just a good enough season to give him trade value. He has major upside but way too many issues for me to want to keep him long term. Call up Jerry Jones or the Browns at the end of the season to see what crazy trade value you can milk out of him.

I'd personally just like to see him get his life together and be a long time jag.

Lol

Don't you know. He's going to be like Cuba Gooding Jr in Jerry Maguire. But instead of doing a flip after being knocked out for five minutes. He's going to be an All Pro receiver after being out of the league for nearly two years.

Yea that's the picture. He's got a little gut going. I think he'll be fine. If he really wants to come back, which it sounds like he does, then I think he'll get himself in football shape.

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a JB thread

I think if Blackmon seriously looked like he was coming back for the season and could be productive....then we would all be ok with every thread turning into a JB thread.

See this is what I don't get...why do you "think he will be fine"? What exactly has he done to warrant this kind of confidence? It looks a lot like blind hopeful faith on your part.

But it's not just you. I wrote Justin off after his, I dunno, 3rd arrest(?) and of course got mercilessly crushed by "leave Justin alone! / he's young and allowed to have fun!" crowd.

And besides if was serious about getting back to the NFL, wouldn't people be running into him at, I don't know...a gym..or a track...or a field, in stead of casinos. <-- crazy talk I know.
