Nice Article on Blaine Gabbert
http://ninernoise.com/2015/03/07/will-49...e-gabbert/ <p class="">" Last season, the 49ers gave up a 6th round pick to Jacksonville for Blaine Gabbert, at the time, it made little sense. One year later, it makes no sense at all. Gabbert, who was horrible during the preseason, was the only 49ers QB to throw a 4th quarter TD pass all year, but now, he’s a free agent. Giving up a 6th round pick for Gabbert may have been a cap saving move, it may have fallen under the “low risk-high reward” category, and it may have, well I don’t know. It’s a move I still don’t understand. Colt McCoy turned in a pretty solid season in Washington one year after backing up Colin Kaepernick. But with Gabbert, now the 49ers are left in the dark. He’s an unrestricted free agent who will command nothing near what he made in 2014, which was a salary of over $2M. It’s doubtful that the 49ers will be able to land a well known backup free agent like Brian Hoyer, for the simple reason that a guy like Hoyer wants to play, so San Francisco is left in a position to sign a backup QB who has a good chance he won’t see much, if any playing time in 2015. Bringing back Gabbert for another year would be a nice move for the 49ers, but if Gabbert’s eyeing a $1M salary next season, then forget it. The 49ers have cap room, just not that kind to spend on a backup QB. " We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Meanwhile, with the pick Dave got from San Fran, he took Luke Bowanko....
