Which player is the perfect OTTO?
|
If Gus could pick any player out of this draft to play OTTO for the next 8 years, who would it be? Vic Beasley? Randy Gregory?
Maybe that's what they're looking to do - solve the LB issue with an impact player at OTTO. They already have a dynamic player at weakside with Telvin Smith, and Poz in the middle. Jeremiah George might be the future at MLB, or a draft pick could be, but Poz may have another good year in him, especially if he has 2 rangy LBs on either side of him. I have seen a lot of people predict line, line, line. Gregory, Ray, Leonard. Some reach to linebacker in Fowler, but for the most part it is the line. I would not be surprised in the slightest if Caldwell surprised everybody else and took Beasley at #3. I think Beasley could be the perfect OTTO and Caldwell has shown he likes to make surprise moves. The more I see mock drafts saying, "Gregory, Ray Fowler, Leonard," the more I think it will be Beasley, maybe someone else, but I lean Beasley.

OTTO has to be Beasley. I'm not sure he's the pick but he's grown on me recently.

Just to echo what Shack, Kodiak, and the Kentucky jag are saying; it's Beasley.
He has the triangle numbers, he has the production, he has the college pedigree. I have no problem with the team taking him at #3.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

I think Beasley fits the mold but I just don't see him being a great player. I don't think his production will justify the third overall pick.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Does anyone really think they take Beasley over Williams?
For the Jags to pick @ 3 the Titans had to have selected Mariota @ 2 thus L. Williams is just sitting there @ 3. If the Titans go L. Williams @ 2 I really hope we trade back for someone wanting Mariota. I just have a hard time thinking of a scenario where we are forced to pick @ 3 and Beasley is the best option….
Fowler. From what i understand, the OTTO needs to be pretty versatile and Fowler has at least had experience of being put in multiple positions. Unfortunately, if we take Fowler with our first round pick, I can see him being used as a LEO instead. Same probably goes for Beasley and Gregory.
This article has been posted on this forum very recently, but as it's relevant I'll post it again... http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2015/2/25/8...rs-defense Quote:Does anyone really think they take Beasley over Williams? This assumes someone wants to trade with us though. And with the Raiders and the Redskins also potential trade partners for a team wanting Mariota, I'm not sure it will be a foregone conclusion. It's not hard to find the opinion on Williams that goes something like, "Yeah he's safe and solid, but the elite upside isn't there. Good at everything and great at nothing." If Dave falls in that camp I could see him going with Beasley, Fowler, or Gregory.

Personally, I think we might be over thinking this. Dekoda Watson was a lb first. Alan branch wasn't thought of as an Otto, jt Thomas was the next man up. I think the position is a lb first who can play near the line and rush the passer more than a de who can stand up occasionally.
