New Executive Order Idea: Raise Taxes Without Involving Congress

New Executive Order Idea: Raise Taxes Without Involving Congress

<div>Now that Captain Teleprompter has given up on the actual American way of making laws, it seems that to get his agenda done, the Occupant of the Oval Office is going to run out the ink in his executive orders pen.  According to multiple reports, the latest item on the administration’s laundry list is higher taxes for the people.  Since there is no way this particular Congress will be willing to take up the sort of increases Barack Obama really wants, he is actively looking at what can be done without Congress:

Funny, I don't get any pop ups..... you just want people to avoid clicking it because you know it's something Obama would do. Nice to know you're in his camp

From the article I read (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/conncarroll...n-n1964629) he wants to raise corporate taxes, not taxes on the people.  And if he can't get congress to act, only then will he find ways to close loopholes.

I see no problem with closing loopholes.

Sorry, it's the House Of Representatives that has the Taxing power or to write the tax code. Not the Senate, and not the President

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence<sup> </sup>and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

“All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills.”

It is interesting that the majority of Drifter's "news stories" come from some incredibly horrible websites. Both aesthetically and functionally. Like "Jethro-runs-a-blog-on-his-laptop-under-the counter-at-the-gun-store-he-works-at" type websites.

You missed my point entirely.

Obama doesn't want to raise taxes on the people like the article state, because (no matter how much some people want to label them as such, corporations aren't people).  He wants to raise taxes on corporations.  (And even then not through executive power)  And if he can't, he wants to close loopholes -- what's wrong with closing loopholes?  If he finds a way to do it within his powers as President, then how is closing loopholes a bad thing?

Yes they are. They are everyday people like you and me that own STOCK in said corporation. And with Obama wanting to double the Capitol Gains Tax (It's in his budget proposal) That will take money away from everyday working people. Corporations will have to raise prices to cover the new "Tax" or lose profits. Profits that are paid to stockholders through dividends. The lower the profit, the less the dividends. And if Obama gets his way with the budget (capitol gains) that will mean less money flowing in to the economy and in to peoples savings.

from the article it is full of pop ups but I've seen this reported other places:

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is “very interested” in the idea of raising taxes through unilateral executive action. “The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans,” Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action. “Now I don’t want to leave you with the impression that there is some imminent announcement, there is not, at least that I know of,” Earnest continued. “But the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals…”

I think all parties and everyone involved should be very concerned about the liberties the last few presidents have taken in the name of executive orders. Republicans where cool with it when Bush was doing it, Democrats are good with it while Obama does it, but in reality neither of them are using the executive orders in the manor they where intended.

Regardless if it's "closing loopholes", "improving immigration", "comprehensive gun control", the executive branch as a whole is growing stronger then ever intended.

Sorry, but no.  Corporations aren't people.  Are they made up of people?  Sure.  But that doesn't make them people.

Corporations don't have to raise prices to cover the new tax.  They can choose to, if they think people will pay the higher price for their product.   They certainly don't keep prices as low as they do to benefit us.

I find it funny that it's mentioned that less money flows into the economy if we raise taxes on corporations... but the same argument doesn't work for raising the minimum wage to... you know, levels that at the very least match inflation.  Which would <i>you know... increase the flow of money into the economy</i>.  Because the people making minimum wage are the ones who'd actually spend their money.

Checks and balances.

Under what circumstance should one person have so much power?

Agreed. It's very disingenuous from both sides and very dangerous in practice. I understand the idea of wanting to push an agenda but the checks are checks and balances are balances.

If the GOP wanted to do something useful rather than complaining they could propose legislation that would limit the powers in real and concrete ways. The dems would have to get behind it and then it would be left to Obama to show he is in support of this principle or not.

In all fairness once I turned off adblocker and refreshed the page I was greeted with 2 pop ups, not to mention one of the embedded ads caused the page to load slower.
