Love Smith prefers Winston over Mariota?

ESPN Bucs reporter Pat Yasinskas has "heard" that coach Lovie Smith prefers Florida State QB Jameis Winston over Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

It's part of the reason Smith chose to hire OC Dirk Koetter over Marc Trestman. Trestman reportedly prefers Mariota to Winston. It makes sense. Lovie is an old-school coach. He likes his quarterbacks to be pro-ready, and Winston ran a pro-style offense at Florida State while Mariota was operating in a spread attack. Winston is believed to have a "big edge" over Mariota in the Bucs' eyes.

If the titans also choose to pass over Mariota, how far can he fall?

The Cleveland Browns may be in the market for Mariota.

if he falls to 3, id bet the farm that a team trades up with us.

If mariota makes it past the jets, I expect a strong push from the eagles

In a perfect world, we get JPP in FA. The Titans draft Leonard Williams and the Browns decide they desperately want Marcus Mariota and trade both their 1st round picks with us and maybe even a couple of other picks. With their #12 pick, we take OLB/DE Alvin Dupree and with their #19 pick we take TE Maxx Williams as he will almost without doubt be gone by our 2nd round pick.

This way we have a dominant, mostly consistent D-Line pass rusher in JPP. We get a speedy, awesome pass rushing LB in Dupree and finally we get a franchise TE that will be Bortles best friend for many, many, many years. Just between 1 FA signing and 2 draft picks we have 3 guys who should contribute immediately and be a massive upgrade over what we have currently. Now we just need the Browns to be stupid enough to trade up for Mariota and lucky us, the Browns are one of the stupidest teams around.

Replace Dupree with Shaq Thompson in your scenario and I'll take it.

The Titans are rebuilding and want draft picks. If they get even a decent offer and decide they don't want the QB, then they will make the trade. My guess the trade will be with one of three teams

1. Browns - could offer 2 Rd 1 picks plus a 3rd -

2. Rams - could offer Pick 10 plus Rd 2 pick plus 2016 Rd 2 Pick

3. Eagles - could offer 2015 Rd 1, Rd 2, Rd 3 and 2016 Rd 1 Pick

My guess is the Titans will take the Browns picks and stock up on talent.

If you watched the Rose Bowl and college football the last two years, it's easy to see that Winston is the better prospect.

Easier pro transition, but I'm not sold on either of the QBs for obvious reasons. I would be excited if we could fetch a ransom or Leonard.

Interesting. Most people seem to salivate at the idea of getting Dupree. I think either is a good option.

I don't care as long as they each go 1,2 then big Leonard falls to the Jags at 3

I don't really like McKinney enough. I'd rather take what I have and then get Eric Kendricks or Denzel Perryman to create a pretty strong linebacker core.

McKinney anchored one of the best defenses in the country. He's huge for a linebacker. And has great game speed for a man his size. He's like a more athletic urlacher.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think he is the best MLB in the draft. I just think we would have a better chance of getting a better MLB than OLB in the 2nd round or beyond. I'd much prefer the linebacker core of Telvin Smith/Eric Kendricks/Alvin Dupree than the linebacker core of Telvin Smith/Benardrick McKinney/Eli Harold for example.

My guess to. The only way this won't happen is if Williams has a combine/pro day that is unreal and the Titans cannot pass on him. I believe Williams will be a easy get for us at 3rd if Titans take the trade. Now if they take Williams the party is on!
