Quote:Neither Coughlin or Marrone went to the Senior Bowl. Did they explain why?
it's really not a big deal. The last head coach believed it was some huge advantage for us, but it turned out not to be the case. I'm sure we have scouts there.

Our last head coach had to work at the practices and games, not just interview players. And we actually picked up a few Senior Bowl participants after working in Mobile all week. So yeah, it was a big deal. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

So yeah, it was a big deal. no, it wasn't a big deal. tell me quickly - who did we get the 2nd time we coached? we also coached Derek Carr and didn't take him. So there have been some clear misses there. We got Linder and Telvin, which was nice - but it's not like coaching the senior bowl was needed to know that Telvin Smith has great speed and can be a good player.

Quote:no, it wasn't a big deal.Aaron Colvin was also in that first Senior Bowl (2014) they coached, but he tore his ACL on like the 2nd day of practices. Chris Smith also, but yeah. Pretty sure Ben Koyack was the only guy in the 2015 Senior Bowl we drafted. Sheldon Day and Brandon Allen in the 2016. Then there's UDFAs guys like Craig Loston, Nick Marshall, etc but they're whatever.
Quote:no, it wasn't a big deal. So you think coaching the Senior Bowl had nothing to do with picking our best offensive lineman, outside linebacker, and slot cornerback? Derek Carr was never projected as a top 5 pick FYI. After picking Blake Bortles, we obviously did not need him in the second round.
Quote:So you think coaching the Senior Bowl had nothing to do with picking our best offensive lineman, outside linebacker, and slot cornerback? No, I really don't think us coaching the senior bowl gave us an advantage over other teams. Even teams that don't coach the senior bowl end up picking players from those rosters. It's not as if we consistently found some gems because we coached the senior bowl in multiple years. Them not picking Derek Carr after spending a week with Him and instead drafting a guy who can't throw the football eliminates a huge amount of good they could've done otherwise. Even last year we had Dak Prescott yet we didn't pick him. At some point those missed outweigh the good picks which were Linder and Telvin Smith, and Colvin if I'm being generous.

Quote:No, I really don't think us coaching the senior bowl gave us an advantage over other teams. You obviously are not qualified to have an opinion about the Senior Bowl if it is based on what players did three years later. At the time two coaching staffs go down there to work with all-star players it is a big deal for everyone no matter what happens that week. People who know anything about the draft process know this. Without being a team executive, coach, or scout who worked in Mobile last week, you have no ability to determine who was a good or bad prospect based on an all-star game. Our coaching staff obviously saw an awful lot that fans never got a chance to see until after Derek Carr and Dak Prescott were drafted.
Quote:Dak woulda died behind this line..Pass blocking wise we were ok.

You're not qualified to have any opinions on anything. Fact is we had a week with Carr and a week with Prescott. That "advantage" resulted in us passing on them.

I know more than you do about football if you think all that matters is what happens NOW not AT THE TIME of the draft process. During the draft process, nobody knows what will happen in three years. The only thing that matters when we decide who to pick in April is what we currently know about prospects. Nobody has a crystal ball. You know that, right?

During the draft process, nobody knows what will happen in three years. Metaphors and sarcasm both in one post? Pretty wild for a person who doesn't really understand them most of the time....
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Quote:Cash me outside, how bout dah?Damn that [BLEEP] is taking over social media right now.
I was especially impressed with the pass rushers in this game, both the DE's and the OLB's. A few guys like Jordan Willis, Derek Rivers, Hassan Reddick, Tyus Bowser, Vince Biegel and Tarrell Basham really improved their draft stock and made a lot of money. It seems like they all were harassing QB's all day long.
A few of the pass catchers stood out as well. O.J. Howard obviously looked great, but so did fellow TE Evan Engram. Zay Jones had an excellent day and showed a tremendous catch radius. He should've had two receiving TD's, but neither counted. One was waived off via a bad call and the other by a penalty. He impressed me a ton. I also really liked Fred Ross as well. He showed really nice hands. I saw hard running from Kareem Hunt and Matthew Dayes. I know Dayes had a fumble, but he showed some really elusive moves and good vision as well. Donnel Pumphrey was a much harder runner than I gave him credit for despite his tiny size, but he is still nothing more than a scatback. He should get drafted though. Although no QB really impressed me, Davis Webb was by far the best and should get a look from teams in that 3rd round range. Peterman was a runner up and will probably fall into the 4-5th round range. Obi Melifonwu was all over the field, making plays. I like that kid a lot. His size, range and motor might push him as high as the 2nd or 3rd round. Lorenzo Jerome opened some eyes as well. He went from an UDFA to a guy who should get selected in that 6-7th round range. Other guys didn't fare so well, particulariy the O-Linemen. Adam Bisnowaty opened some holes in the run game, but was absolutely miserable in pass protection. He was beaten like a drum by speed rushers off the edge, the entire game. He has to move inside to OG, where he won't give up so much space. Connor McDermott and Justin Senior had similar problems. McDermott has no business playing LT. He needs to move to RT, because he lacks the footwork to play LT and Senior needs to kick inside to OG as well. Rayshawn Jenkins is an awful tackler. He made some very bad whiffs in the game where guys ran right through his tackles. |
