Adam Vinatieri Says, "No Kicker Will be Happy If Pro Bowl Rules Applied"

#1

I for one hope they do, or some form of increased distance and/or decreased width of the goal posts.

The current set up is entirely to easy. Up your game Kickers.

The narrower goal posts are goofy.

They pretty much give the keys to the kingdom to the QB's and instead are worrying about making it harder for the kickers? Yeah...seems about right.

The thinking behind this is harder field goals will tempt coaches into going for the first down more often. Fourth down conversions are exciting, field goals are usually not.

Either that or more punts...yippee.

I don't care if it is "just kickers."

Leave the game alone!  Jeez!

Not a fan of the narrower goals. That would seem to to mean more punts, unless it's 4 and a yard or something. I'd be fine with moving back extra points to tempt more two point conversions.

And at the end of a game a game winning or tying FG from that distance with the smaller posts make things a lot more dramatic.

Not as dramatic as you think.  Teams will have to change their cards completely.  You will have to move much closer and really just go for the score more and more.  If a good kicker is a weapon, then this weird punishment system makes the QB 100x more valuable.  The teams with QBs will beat the spread more and more.

Any rule that makes kickers less important is a good rule in my book.

I thought it was to make PAT tries harder. Will teams go for two more often? Probably not.

Field goals are exciting when they are game winners or the TV announcer reports it is a career-long attempt for the kicker.

It is not "just kickers." The whole team is affected because they have to decide whether to go for it, punt, or attempt a field goal more often.

Why? You certainly don't want punters to be more important. Most people would rather see a field goal attempt than a punt.

Think about it. How many more punts do you think we will see if teams decide it is too risky to try a 50-yard field goal?

This. The rule book is way too thick as it is. Just play the game The way it was intended. It's starting to not be fun to watch anymore. There is a flag like every play.

I'm really getting tired of this "every play has to be exciting" crap the NFL keeps trying to do with these constant rule changes and proposals.

Like Bullseye said, leave it alone.

What's next, moving goal posts as the kicker attempts his FG or XP? Maybe play some carnival music as the ball flies through the air.

When will these changes end?

If they are going to slant every rule towards the offense, I am all for this change.
