I haven't seen any reports about an interview request.   But with Mike Smith being fired from the Falcons,   there shouldn't be any significant obstacles in JDR being able to talk to Smith.  

Wouldn't it be entertaining to see a JDR/Musgrave/Smitty structure at the top of the Raiders next year? It'd fit in with the whole "definition of insanity" bit, that's for sure.

Not so fast.

 

The JDR/Smitty combo was very good defensively for the Jaguars.

 

Musgrave wasn't so successful, but Carr better fits what he likes to do with his QBs than what JDR had here.

 

I think it's more a personnel issue at this point.

The thing about the Defensive shift in Chicago is that, on the surface, the Defense seems to be pretty bare in terms of talent so that will likely get a lot of attention in terms of the Draft/Free Agency. It'll be interesting to see how Fox does when he is going to have to build a unit from the ground up.

If you are hiring a Head Coach in order to fix one particular part of a team, then you are pretty off base. Granted, given Chicago's past record that wouldn't really surprise me but a Head Coach isn't brought in to fix one particular thing. They are there to lead, to provide a direction for the team, and a structure in which that direction can be followed. If you hire a guy to, let's say, fix your Linebacker's run fits, he better be a LB coach and a LB coach only.
