Marks and Anger receive all-pro votes

Quote:No it could not have been had in the later rounds. We had no fourth round pick, so somebody else could have picked him if we didn't. He probably would have been a fourth round pick if we did not trade up for Justin Blackmon.
Lol and then "oh no! We can't draft a punter! The world is over"

That pick will always be the worst pick in Jags history.

Who the hell cares where someone was drafted as long as they aren't dead weight? You know what the hit/miss ratio is for NFL drafts? Anger is one of the better players on this roster and his leg still hasn't fallen off after punting a million times a game. Maybe you all need to relive the days of Matt Turk to realize how good we have it.

There is no reason to think that pick is nearly as bad as trading up for Blaine Gabbert. We could have picked  J.J. Watt at #16 or in the second round.

Hekker was an undrafted free agent the same year I think...

I posted the stats and we could go on and on about the punter.  Honestly he is slightly above middle of the pack.  He has an active leg and that is a good thing.  Really it would be nice if we didn't punt as much.

I think Marks should have been an all pro period.  To make some journalistic stance and put JJ Watt in at 2 positions in case he doesn't get the MVP is wrong.

Matt Turk was abysmal...  He single handedly cost us the game at Carolina that year he was our worthless punter.  But...  that does not give us a pass for picking up a punter in the third round!

As for your question of "who cares" where one is drafted...  I'm sure you don't really mean that...

A punter can be got in practically any other round, even as an undrafted free agent.  Just because GS failed on Turk should not have made him OVER-CORRECT...  Imagine what players we potentially could have taken a flyer on in the 3rd round...  (cough, R.Wilson, cough).  So yes it is important where you draft players at times.  You don't draft a punter in the 3rd round, don't care who they are...

For instance, would you draft a FG kicker or DT/ST in the 2nd round in fantasy football?  You could, but you'd be dumb and people would laugh at you...

Still don't know why a punter who was outkicking his coverage and kicking into the endzone all season got an all-pro vote.  Doesn't make sense to me.

Quote:Marks and Anger didn't get 1st or 2nd team, but they did get some votes. The media sees us. Forget about the beauty contest aka probowl. I want more all pros.

Note. Marks got 4 votes at DT. Would maybe had made 2nd team if it wasn't for Watt getting 2nd at a second position.

Anger got 1 vote.

SInce Anger was drafted in the 3rd round, i believe he should be a HOF by now.

Quote:5th in the league in avg punt distance.

Doesn't matter when his net average is still middle of the pack at best because he out kicks his coverage.

LOL. Sure it matters. And what coverage??  The coverage team has been a revolving door of scrubs the past two years while they've purged this roster.

Anger is a good punter.  A horrible pick in the third, but a good punter.

Uhh, yea it does matter.  It doesn't matter how far you kick it if you let the returner get yards that take away from your net average.  The longer a punt returner is on his feet, the better chance he has of getting to the side to outrun the coverage.

To say his net yard average isn't what matters is to completely misunderstand the point of net vs average yards per punt.

Anger is 15th in the league for net average. 2nd in the league in yards. Cut this bum!!!111

It's been so long now - I can't remember. Is it some sort of urban legend that Anger would have been drafted in the fourth round (or fifth or sixth) or was that just some sort of pr cover story to deflect from the fact that a punter was selected in the 3rd round?

Again…. What coverage?  This team must have had 8 different gunners over the course of the season and most of them couldn't get off their blocks - much less get downfield. When they did - many of them flailed and made no impact on the return.

His net is still middle of the pack, but hate all you like.  I just disagree with you and I think you're placing far too much importance on the net stat.

He's a good punter.  Better than most of the punters in the league.
