Apparently if you miss the entire year on suspension, you don't count that year against the cap. Blackmon's entire cap, signing bonus hit and all, appears to have been wiped off the 2014 books. My hunch here is that everything is pushed back a year including the date he's set to be a free agent. I vaguely recall Vic saying this is how it works.

He won't be the same player.   Being out of football for 2 years, no matter how much he practiced, there's no way to emulate real game action, so we will see endless soft tissue injuries, hamstring pulls, etc., until some point late in September when he's put on IR.

This sounds like the ideal move.  I'm not sure how likely it is to happen, but If he comes back and plays at a somewhat decent level, I'd like to see how much value he'd get on the trading block.

That is correct in regard to the contract. That's why it would have been silly to cut ties with Blackmon back when many here were calling for it.

 

One thing Gene got right was Blackmons contract

Just consider this, A man is giving up some of his favorite comforts (Weed/Alcohol) to come back into the NFL. He is going to be one motivated person. I do expect growing pains but I also expect growth.

According to an article posted in another thread, his contract is basically frozen in time and will resume when he is reinstated. He doesn't count toward the cap until he's reinstated, and the Jags will still have 3 years to decide what to do with him at the point he returns. That's why there was absolutely no reason for the team to cut him and move on. It's costing them nothing to keep him and decide their next move when he's back.

Salivating over the fact that Blackmon could be back with us. 

His rookie year, with Gabbert and Henne throwing to him, he had 865 yards / 5 Tds / 64 rec / and a long 81 yard catch!! Remarkable, when you consider he played with two of the most incapable QB's to ever play on an NFL field. 

 

Last year he had 29 receptions/ 415 yards in 4 games... with Chad freakin Henne and Gabbs!  

 

With a new OC, Robinson, Lee, Hurns, pending FA/draft pick, AND BLACKMON!!?! 

 

WE would be UNSTOPPABLE!!!!! 

 

...but one can dream. Here's to hoping he's fully recovered!
