Poll: Which is the worst Jaguars draft blunder of all time?
Trading up for Derrick Harvey a.k.a. Raphael in 2008.
Beating the clots at the end of the 2011 season and handing them Andrew Luck in the draft.
Trading up for Justin Blackmon in 2012, meanwhile Tannehill and Kuechley are taken a few picks later.
Trading up for Gabbert in 2011, J.J. Watt is then taken by the tinhorns with the pick right after Gabbert.
Taking a Punter in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft, meanwhile Russell Wilson is picked 5 picks later.
Taking college QB Matt Jones in the 1st round in 2005 and making him a WR a position he has not previously played. Oh yeah and Aaron Rodgers is taken 3 picks later.
Taking R. Jay Soward in the 1st round of the 2000 draft.

Taking Reggie Williams 9th overall in 2004, Roethlisberger goes 11th.

Worst draft related blunder in Jaguars history?

(This post was last modified: 01-17-2015, 10:22 PM by Joe.)

Quote:The players don't tank. Tanking occurs when the coaching staff, possibly under direction of the GM, plays 2nd and 3rd string players "to evaluate them for next year." The clots were playing backups while the Jags were still playing starters.
LOL is that right? Is that when tanking occurs?

Tanking isn't real, at least in the NFL. I'm sure the Colts GM ( that was fired that offseason) the head coach ( fired that offseason) and team president Bill Polian ( fired that offseason) sure wanted to "tank" themselves into unemployment.

Even if they did tank, and put their 2nd-3rd stringers in to lose the game, what were the Jaguars supposed to do? Select random members from the audience?

Gene should have drafted Tebow. Who knows when another narrative like that will come along.

The Blaine Gabbert/ J.J. Watt course of events probably was the biggest setback for the Jaguars.   Not only did Gabbert fail to come remotely close to living up to his draft billing,   Watt became the best Defensive player in the NFL.    And he's on a Jaguars divisional opponent.   These are the type of decisions that cost GMs and HCs jobs.

As crazy as this sounds,  Gene probably would have been better off drafting Tim Tebow if it meant that he would land J.J. Watt the following season.   Tebow would be long gone unless he changed positions.   But if Tebow would have resulted in Watt,   for the Jaguars,   it certainly beats what transpired in the two drafts.

If I vote for Derrick Harvey, can it mean the whole 2008 draft?

Not drafting Tebow was probably the one smart thing Gene Smith did as a GM.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

But imagine the 10's of dollars in jaguars merchandise Tebow could have sold. Can you say Super Bowl?

I remember all those people defending the pick at the moment ROFL

Quote:The thing about Anger is -- he's not even that great of a punter.

Exactly, yet right after the pick people were saying he was going to be a HOF.... classic Jags fans

Easy to say now. But the city (many fans and non) were pretty enthralled at the idea of seeing a 'hometown hero' come 'home'. If it had crashed an burned as the story went,  Kahn comes in and we're where we are today. But Kahn even took a stab at a similar narrative to by time while he gained his bearings.

No one is safe.
