After looking at this list of starting DTs, do you still think he's worth 3.9 mill per?

Keep Alualu, but keep him at the league minimum.  Otherwise, adios...

Same people on this forum are too dumb to see how players are actually playing so they go to the stat sheet.

Is Alualu a top 10 pick talent? No. Is he a valuable rotational 5T? Yes. That doesnt command a big contract. I hope and expect he will be back.

So the people who say Red Bryant is playing well but say Alualu isnt are the ones looking at the stat sheet?

Who is the dumb one here?

Quote:Alualu is an enigma to me.  The guy always seems to do just enough to stay on the team.  With all of the competition coming in now though, he might finally get squeezed out.  I think he's been serviceable, but there's probably better out there.  He makes plays, but just not consistently.
Tyson is playing the way a backup should but Bryant isn't playing the way a +4 million dollar a year starter should. Red would be the first to go. There is no dead money in his deal so it would be a clean break for the jags.

Considering where Red would fall on that list and his 4.25 million pay check next year, I would think Alualu and his 2.44 million paycheck would be a steal.

Never seen a player get so much credit for doing absolutely nothing on the field. It is comical.

So you're trolling this thread, yet you won't comment on your justification of 3.9 mill for a back up DT, when our best DT is only making 3 mill?

You sir are a joke.

When he got a sack in the Giants game, I was reminded he was even still on the team.

No, it would still be overpaying for a back up DT...  You don't throw good money after bad.  That's how you wind up in cap-space hell...

Have we learned nothing over the years?

A back up DT isn't worth that type of money.

Restructure Marks' contract first, then if you want to overspend of a backup DT, then OK.  But c'mon, use your head.

Sunk costs don't justify overspending...

At least I know what position he plays.

Alualu's 2015 base salary would rank 40th among DE's in the NFL. It ranks 23rd in 2014.

Mayhaps you should educate yourself more on what positions players play and the salary ranges for those positions before you call people a joke.

Oh that must be the other terrible player that wears 93 on the Jags that I have seen playing inside since week one.

You really gonna say that he has exclusively played 5 tech this yr?

On the Sproles td run week one he was playing a 3 tech. That's just off the top of my head. Saw him playing the 1thursday night.

You sure you know as much as you think you do?

I see your point, but Caldwell and Bradley brought Bryant in.  They had nothing to do with Alualu.  I can see them releasing Alualu before Bryant.  He hasn't lived up to his draft position, but realistically, how many guys do?  This is another example of Gene Smith's work at poor drafting.

I'm aware where they come from. The thing is, Alualu plays primarily defensive end, though. Specifically the strong side end. He kicks inside in some situations.

No, I'm not really going to say that he has "exclusively played 5 tech" because he hasn't, nor have I ever said he has. That doesn't mean he's a "defensive tackle". Just like when Darren Sproles lines up at wide receiver in the slot, he's not a wide receiver. He's a running back who will at times line up as a wide receiver, just like Tyson Alualu at times will lineup inside in some packages.

You are aware players can shift around in packages right? That doesn't change their primary position now, does it?

Therefor, complaining about his salary in comparison to people like Marks, who primarily play defensive tackle, is comical.

I'm sorry being able to see that Alualu is a good depth player in his role bothers you, Joe, and thunderbuns so much. How mad were you guys when he didn't get cut last year like I told you he wouldn't? Did you press the keys on the keyboard hard?
