Jaguars New Regime - What's Your Stance?

Just taking the temperature from the board on Caldwell, Bradley and the coordinators. Feel free to elaborate, explain, or describe your perspective that isn't represented in the poll.
(I approve of Caldwell, unsure on the rest, but I'm largely optimistic about all of them. Babich is the only guy I have doubts about.) We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I don't like the way Caldwell started out but I'm waiting until next year to cost a lot. 3 years Caldwell has plenty of time to field NFL talent at every position, Bradly should be past his learning curve and we should be competitive. Anything less put me in the disapprove catagory.
Caldwell is married to Gus that's his coach this is his roster.
Approve Caldwell, disapprove Bradley and coordinators. He has not given us a reason to believe. Like I said in another thread, I hope he changes my mind with the remaining schedule, it's just highly unlikely.

I approve of the plan that's in place to right this ship. Caldwell and Bradley are definately the proper selections at their perspective positions. As for the coordinators, I too approve because they must be given the opportunity to suceed...

I think Caldwells approach has been smart so far. In essence he took the approach of tanking in basketball. Some people dont like that strategy but it seems way more accepted in basketball for whatever reason.
If youre not gonna make the playoffs, better to play tons of young players to get them experience and find a couple gems you may not have if you signed some mediocre players in FA to get you to 8-8 (or in the raiders case they signed mediocre veterans and still suck). Once the foundation of young players is there after 3 years of a high draft picks, then go spend some big $$ when the team is ready to make a push for the playoffs. Approved by me. Maybe the picks dont work out, but I think thats the right strategy to completley rebuild a team that had nothing at all. Bradley is a great leader. Most teams would have quit on their coach after struggling so much. His leadership is apparent, which is the main quality needed for a head coach. I like Gus for the future. Jedd and Babich dont really impress me. They are both limited by personel but even with what they have they could be more creative in scheming points instead of asking young players and those without talent to win in 1v1 situations. I think they both might be needed to be upgraded.
I think I'm going with too early but I've leaned on liking everyone but Jedd and Babich thus far tho.

In fact, I believe that statement involves a lot of revisionist history. And if that really is 'the plan' than its a horrible one. Football is not basketball, one player doesn't = championship no matter how good they are (even Brady or Montana). Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. Approve of Caldwell, Unsure on Bradley, Disapprove of coordinators
though I'm more unsure Caldwell, I'm certain the coordinators suck though. Quote:Um, I don't think that's what happened. In fact, I believe that statement involves a lot of revisionist history. And if that really is 'the plan' than its a horrible one. Football is not basketball, one player doesn't = championship no matter how good they are (even Brady or Montana). I think it is what happened - sort of. The word tanking should not have been used, but the point is correct in the sense that Khan/Caldwell/Bradley decided to go with youth knowing wins were going to be few and far between. But what were their options? Do what Oakland did? How's that working? So - all we can do is sit back and see if "the plan" works. Sure, you can try to be an internet tough guy, a "real" fan, and moan and groan and take a "Off with their heads!" attitude, but that just makes you look silly. Or you can follow some other team.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Gus Bradley has many traits that make for an effective leader. He has boundless energy and is a very positive person. He is a very hard worker and is very consistent.
What I do have an issue with is the single high safety strategy that we are running frequently. This formation is an invitation to send receivers long and force the safety which side to cover. Any decent QB makes that read and throws to the single coverage side of the field. The jury is still out on our Gm and coach. The bottom line is that the roster is deficient in playmakers. Draft and develop playmakers. The great city of Jacksonville deserves a better product than what we've gotten this past decade.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023.
Unsure on both sides.
Caldwell has had some good picks and had some bad picks. Bradley seems to suck but is it the chicken or the egg? If the talent on this team is that bad then Caldwell has failed doing his job. Yes it's a rebuild but 2 years in we should not be sitting at 1-9. If the talent is decent on the team then Bradley has failed his job. According to many on this board, they all are doing a great job. There is a major problem with the front office/coaching staff that needs to get sorted out before season 3. Bradley could hit the road and I wouldn't care. Caldwell's future is tied to Bortles. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Approve of Caldwell, Unsure on Bradley, disapprove of (two) coordinators, Babich and Mallory.
Bradley is on thin ice IMO. He's made a lot of game time errors. The team never seems to improve after halftime. His chosen coordinators are poor. I also think he's too conservative. On the plus side, he does seem to get the most out of the players, and is a good recruiter of free agents. Maybe he can pull off another 3-1 after the bye rally. We'll see. Fisch gets a pass because the offense is just too young to properly judge him. I never liked Babich. One of the TV announcers said that Gus had taken over running the defense. I don't know whether or not that's true, but it explains the improvement after a dismal start. If it is true then Babich is nothing more than a place holder. Coughlin was both HC and OC for a time, maybe Gus should be HC and DC next year. Mallory has to go. Coverage has generally been good, but five blocks in one season (ten games) is unacceptable. I though Caldwell could have done better in his first year, both in the draft and free agency. Also I didn't like the Monroe trade and thought he was too anxious to get rid of players from past administrations. It appears he has done a super job in his second draft, and picked up some useful fill-ins at reasonable prices in free agency. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"

Happy with Caldwell. Early picks have been hit or miss but he's found several good players in the later rounds and free agency has been pretty good considering he's been sticking to cheaper C/D level free agents.
Gus is clearly a good defensive guy considering he's got some good performances out of a defense that hasn't had much invested into it. If they add some nice FAs and early picks I feel like it could easily be a top 10 unit. He might be one of those guys who can run a defense but handicap the offense too much, we'll see next year. I could take or leave Fisch. He does a lot of things I don't like and can be way too conservative in the first half. idc about Babich, his role here is to execute Bradley's scheme and he's done an ok job of it. |
