The Race to 3000 for the Rookie QBs

#1
(This post was last modified: 11-21-2014, 12:50 AM by The Eleventh Doctor.)

Derek Carr was the first Rookie QB this year to reach 2000 yards.  But he also has a headstart on the competition.  The question is: Which of them will reach 3000 first?

Here's our current standings:

Derek Carr - 2249 yards

Needs: 751 (150 yards per game)

Blake Bortles - 1921 yards (154 yards behind leader)

Needs: 1079 yards (180 yards per game)

To Pass leader: 25 yards more per game than leader (199 yards this weekend)

Teddy Bridgewater - 1479 yards (596 yards behind leader; 442 yards behind 2nd)

Needs: 1521 yards (254 yards per game)

To pass leader: 99 yards more per game than leader (273 yards this weekend)

To pass second place: 74 yards more per game than second place

Zach Mettenberger - 758 yards (1317 yards behind leader, 1163 yards behind 2nd, 721 yards behind 3rd)

Needs: 2242 yards (374 yards per game)

To pass leader: 220 yards more per game than leader (394 yards this weekend)

To pass 2nd: 194 yards more per game than 2nd

To pass 3rd: 120 yards more per game than 3rd

Nobody else has even an outside shot at making it.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'm going to say Blake. He is so close to Carr despite 2.5 less games. And he's been averaging what? Like 250+ a game.

I'd be interested to see if any can reach 4000.

Only Bortles and Carr have a realistic shot at making it to that number.

With Bridgewater's remaining schedule and results so far I doubt he'll even reach 2500 yards. Carr might make it to 3000, but he's not exactly lighting it up with his sub 6 YPA.

In the next six games, Blake needs 48 ypg to beat Gabbert's highest, 154 ypg to beat Leftwich's, 221 ypg to beat Henne's highest, 284 ypg to beat Garrard's (and throw for highest yards by a Jaguars QB in 18 years), and 408 ypg to beat Brunnel for franchise record.

Barring injury I think he'll set the franchise record next season. And pass at least Henne this year

When was the last time we had a 3000 or 3500 yard passer?

3000?  uhh... last year?  Henne threw 3241 yards.

3500 would be 2009. Seems unlikely for Blake to make it this year, but he did miss 2.5 games.

I believe Blake might be the only one to hit the mark. IDK if teddy will hit the mark but Im not sure he really will. Carr I highly doubt he will. Zack...yeaaaa....

Eh, Carr doesn't need much at all to reach 3000.  Barring injury, he should do it easily.  He's only had 2 games this year with fewer than 154 yards.

If he throws just 200 yards tonight, he'll need only 145 yards per game.

He's playing against the Chiefs. Not exactly a pushover defense.

And they've only held two teams to under 154 passing yards (which is the average that Carr needs).  Throwing 200 yards just once this season will put him at needing just 145 yards per game.  The Chiefs have only held one team under 145.

Well I wasn't someone that believes Carr won't make it to 3000, but I don't think you can go by what the Chiefs have done against other teams to determine what they'll do against the Raiders, who are possibly the worst team in the league. I doubt the Raiders get 200 yards passing out of Carr tonight, and it wouldn't surprise me for them to be held under 150 yards.

Mettenberger stands no chance of getting 3k. But he wasn't too bad today. Carr and Bortles both ought to make it, but neither of them is hitting 3500 IMO.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Who cares if any one of them hit 3k if it is achieved through garbage time.

Mett can't make it, but he can still pass Teddy possibly.

Johnny Football has 63 yards, needs 2,937 yards. Must average 735 yards per game.
