Finally a bye week
|
I usually give myself 24 hours before I post. The game yesterday was probably the most painful loss of the year, being a Texan and hating the cowboys with a passion. Makes it tough to keep things in perspective. I definitely need the bye week, as do all the fans, to get excited about this team again.
Offensively, I understand the struggles. I thought bortles played ok yesterday. His decision making is improving atleast. His footwork is getting funky at times, and it causes inconsistent accuracy. The lack of pass protection did not help him. Denard flashed again. The cowboys started loading the box and blitzing, so it took denard out of the game. I saw some improvement in his pass protection, which is another step closer for him to be a 3 down back. The fumble hurt, but hes a developing nfl running back. Fumbles will happen. My biggest worry about the offense is Jedd Fisch. He runs such a simplistic, college-style offense that I don't see ever working, on a consistent basis, at the nfl level. He does have 5-6 rookies playing a lot of snaps, and a few 2nd year players as well, with an amount of veterans you can count on one hand. I'm not the type to call for a coordinators head, but I'm really not sure about Fisch. Fisch ' s scheme makes it hard to watch the developmemt of Bortles, which is why all jaguars fans are still watching at this point. I'm willing to be patient for the rest of the season, given the youth, on offense. I just worry if Bortles has the right coordinator/offense for his strengths. Defensively is where my biggest issues arise. The lack of tackling is absolutely inexcuseable, as that side should be our strongest unit and the fundamental things should be down, this late in the season. Dallas has a great offense with players like witten, murray, and bryant, but the poor tackling has been consistent throughout the year. It is really, really frustrating. Gus is supposed to have the defense playing at a high level, regardless of who is out injured. He's done a good job at developing mccray, but what about Gratz? He has seemed to regress. Cyprien hasn't been balling like I expected, but his strength is in the box. Taking bad angles is fixable, which I think is his main problem. Should it take a season and a half to fix though? The pass rush has been neutralized the last two weeks, but our d-line is still a strength. Atleast we have that building block. Our biggest veteran presence, and our head coach's strength in player development and coaching experience, and it still is dealing with fundamental problems. Very frustrating. The special teams has been pretty bad all season. Todman is about the only player that had consistently flashed. Not sure if the special teams coordinator is a keeper after this season. Bye week is coming at a good time because our frustration is at an all-time high. We should come out of the bye week a bit healthier, and maybe Colvin? Atleast we have that to look forward to. Marcedes better come back with a vengeance, because we need a TE badly.
