Raiders to file to move to Las Vegas

#21

SOOOOO a pro NFL team and a pro NHL in a city of 620k. Interesting. But this does give an opportunity to have a fantastic weekend if you are an away team. Fly into Vegas late Thursday or early friday party like an animal Friday and Saturday then watch some football on Sunday.

They'll make their money one way or another. It should be pretty obvious how little the league cares about the fans at this point. The big winner here is the city of Las Vegas.

Quote:Somehow the Raiders have the worst attendance in the NFL this season.  Even with a really good team.  The move to Vegas seems obvious.  I dont believe attendance will be all that great out there either.  But you get the perks of a new stadium plus all the gambling money buying up all the suites and club level tix.

NFL is less about the game and more about the experience/entertainment.  Vegas is an obvious spot.  I like the move for them.

A few seasons back,  the amount of seats was reduced by at least 11,000 during the time the team was near the bottom of the NFL.   Reportedly, demand for Raiders tickets was very high this season as the team finally had a winning and playoff season,  something that didn't happen since the 2002 Raiders Super Bowl appearance season.   When considering how antiquated the Oakland Coliseum is,  I think the Raiders fans responded very favorable in supporting the team once the product on the field became good again.   What makes this that much more impressive,  at least on this end,  is the team applied for relocation to Carson, CA. earlier in the year and all of the Las Vegas talk.

IMO,  if the Raiders end up moving to Las Vegas or elsewhere outside the Oakland/ SF Bay area,   it won't be because of their fans.   If the local governments in Oakland would have stepped up as well as St. Louis and the State of Missouri did in 2015 (  despite the eventual outcome  ) ,  I believe there's a good chance Mark Davis would have agreed to remain in Oakland.
