I enjoy the ESPN series 30 for 30 and DVR all of them. The latest one I saw was, "When the Garden Was Eden" directed by Michael Rappaport.


This episode was nothing more than a glorified fanboy fawning over a team he loves and re-hashing the last time they won a world title which happened to be when he was three years old. It was embarrassing hearing him worship these former players in interviews, none of which he saw play, he only heard about them from his father.


I expect more from this series. I imagine by now they've gone well past 30 stories and they merely extended it beyond its original intent due to its popularity.


This series usually provides a different angle and much more depth and drama to a story from the past. This episode was weak and hopefully not a sign of things to come. Many of these episodes were absolutely phenominal. The Boston College point shaving scandal and "The Best That Never Was" are my two favorites to date but all of them (save this last one) have been really great.

"Senna" was incredible.  I'm not even a F1 fan and I can tell you it is a fantastic stand-alone documentary.

 

New Yorkers are a pretty self-indulgent lot, so I'm not surprised they eventually had to bring up ancient NBA history, but yeah, it was kinda dull.

Not sure how I missed Senna but somehow I did. I'll have to look that one up on demand. I really liked the Greg LeMonde one. Slaying the Badger I think it was called? It really has been a great series and I shouldn't let one setback give me cause for concern but the Knicks one was just lame.

I haven't seen the When the Garden Was Eden one yet. But I have seen the rest and love them. The Best That Never Was is one of my favorites too.

I also wouldn't say that the series has jumped the shark after one show perceived as not very good.Not with the loooong line of such good ones before.

Me either but it was a great watch. He sure has come a long way. I didn't know much of his story, I didn't realize how far he had fallen and how it changed him. I saw him on a sports talk-show a couple days ago and he seems to have turned himself around well.


He was a monster in his college days.

Agreed on "Brian and the Boz." Great episode that's redeemed my faith. I guess every series is going to have a clunker every now and then. Even Breaking Bad had "The Fly."

1-  The one about Miami football in the 80's and 90's done by the director of "Cocaine Cowboys"


 

2- The one about the Fab 5.  Even if you hated the team, this is still awesome.


 

3- The one about the Raiders, Al Davis, and the move


 

4- The one about Bo Jackson.


 

5- The one about Roberto Duran and the 'No Mas" fight


 

6- The one about the National Soccer team from Columbia and the player that was murdered (Andres Escobar?)

The Miami one is my favorite. I loved that style of play and loved watching them play when I was growing up.

 

The Two Escobars is almost my favorite, probably a 1B situation for me. "The Best That Never Was" would be 1C, great story on Marcus Dupree.

 

The one they did about  "The Real Rocky" was good too.

 

The one they did on the former pro players going broke was crazy.

 

The USFL one was interesting.

 

The Fantasy baseball one was good.

 

The Story of SMU

 

The one on Bo Jackson was great.

 

The one on the ghosts of Ole Miss was good.

 

The one on Elway and Marino made me dislike Elway even more.

 

Looking forward to "The U Part 2"

I watched Slaying the badger this weekend.....it reinforced my genuine dislike for the french.
