Why Bortles' INTs Are Nothing To Panic About
|
While I'm fairly certain that most of my fellow posters on this board haven't let this issue hinder their faith in BB, I'm just going to Clear up some things in regards to Bortles' issues protecting the football.
Turnovers are never good. No matter what. Nothing is worse than giving an opposing team a free possession, especially when it leads to points. Also, they are ugly to our rookie QBs stats, nobody wants to see a high number of INTs on a Qbs stat-line. However, I think it's refreshing to have a guy like Blake, who isn't afraid to take shots and make the defense second guess him. Sure, he has made some pretty bad reads, but it's all because he's not giving up on plays, not getting scared or just accepting the 3 and out (like Henne and Gabbert used to) I'm not sure about you guys, but i would way rather have a QB that throws a pick trying to make something happen instead of dumping it off for 2 yards or just taking the sack Bortles will get better, much better. Don't give up on the kid so soon We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Was anyone panicking?
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Out of hundreds of regular posters I think I've seen three that are seriously worried about the INTs.
He's a rookie. Most people get that.

I'm not. He's better than Chenne by far, and he is going to get a LOT better as he gains more experience. I'm telling you. I haven't been this excited about a Jags QB since Brunell. That's too long of a drought if you ask me.

You might want to add that several of the INTs were failures of the WRs to fight for the ball. With experience the WRs should also improve.
But FBT is right, there's almost nobody panicking. It's just great to see a Jags QB take shots downfield. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
I'd be lying if I didn't admit a small part of me is a little concerned. That being said, i understand he's a rookie and i truly believe we have a good one. But #BecauseJaguars, i've learned to be very skeptical. I'm hoping to see improvement as the season progresses. I don't mind the INTs too much, as long as they go along with yards and TDs. I'd like to see improvement in all 3 areas.
I guess another way to put it is, vs the board, i'm not quite as high as everyone else. Yet. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'd rather see the QB take a sack than throw a dumb INT on his own side of the field, but I agree in general that the INTs are not the end of the world, and it is refreshing to see a gunslinger back there as opposed to a guy who'll check down to the receiver three yards away from the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 10.
He can make the back shoulder throw, the touch pass, throw off the run, throw on a rope, he can make all the throws.
Ints are a part of the game. Once the game slows down he will only get better.
That final interception was painful, especially since it happened right in front of me.
However, I have confidence he will learn. He missed Cecil on the previous play, and on that pick, he could have tucked it and ran it in or atleast got the first down. I will worry if he makes these same mistakes next season. This season is his bumps and bruises season. He seems to be mentally tough enough to not let those interceptions get to him
No commercial messages in sigs
I like how Jedd grabbed immediately after the Int, and told him something along the lines of, they happen, get over it! Don't remember the exact quote but good to see the OC keeping his head high. Blake was looking weary.

I hadn't thought about it like that.

Quote:I've seen some posters on the board as well as almost every commentator have something to say about it (including Beurelein our ex QB)And almost to a person, they've said they were in a state of panic? Really? Commenting on the number of interceptions saying that he needs to knock that number down is nothing more than stating the obvious. Nobody is really concerned about the picks at this point, so to start a thread saying it's too soon to panic is probably a little premature, don't you think? Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I panicked before he played so I could get it out of the way early. ![]() Quote:I panicked before he played so I could get it out of the way early. Now that's wise! His footwork at times has been pretty bad but that was to be expected (as were the interceptions) with him. He'll improve as the year goes on and through next offseason. I'm not worried in the least about Blake and his interception total. He can throw 30 this year for all I care. As long as he learns from mistakes and continues to grow, who cares? This season is lost. Let him learn and see what he can get away with. Get them on film so he can review his mistakes.
We've been "nurpled" again. :pirate:
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
He has a 1:2 TD to INT ratio right now. While I expect him to finish the season with more INTs than TDs, I would also expect that ratio to improve. I'm not panicking. I'm still more excited watching him at QB than I've ever been watching a Jags QB. That last INT he threw was the worst one he's thrown all year, but he's a bright young kid. I don't think he's the type of player who makes the same dumb mistake twice
