I'll tell you what, that would be an amazing place to watch a game. Small, quaint, your close to the field.....I would love to see a game there.

 

  It brings back memories of watching USFL San Antonio Gunslinger games on TV.   Alamo Stadium had around 23,000 capacity in those days.

According to Forbes, he made $59 million on the team last year, and it's worth is $2.08 billion. Granted it's not a very great return on asset value, but nonetheless you are an NFL owner which comes with extraordinary perks and privileges. He paid $70 million in 1984 for them which gives him a cool ~ $2 billion in capital gain.

 

This greed at the expense of the hard working fan is driving the fans away from the game.

I hope they do keep the Charger name, I'd hate to see that brand disappear.

 

   I respect where you are coming from,  as the Chargers brand/ tradition has been a huge part of the NFL for a long time.   If given the choice though,  my preference would be for San Diego to keep the Chargers nickname, team colors,  history,  and everything else related.  Much like Cleveland had the opportunity to do so when the Browns moved to Baltimore.    Then if San Diego gets another team,  they would have the option of continuing the Chargers tradition.   I would like to see be the case with any area that loses a team.

  That's the first and only name that jumps out from the San Antonio Gunslingers.    The small stadium size,  green as the team's primary color,  and the team being amongst the worst in the standings are the other memories that come to mind about that franchise.   This was probably the lowest profile team in the USFL.

  This article reflects why I believe that Dean Spanos was hoping until this morning that either San Diego and/ or the NFL would step up to provide him a better package that would at least delay a move until the 2019 season.  With a better chance of a 2018 ballot proposal being successful than the one that failed a couple of months ago.

 

  Unlike Stan Kroenke,   i view Dean Spanos as someone who wanted to remain in his team's home area but didn't have a viable option to make this happen other than potentially selling the team.   I much rather Spanos succeed in Los Angeles than Kroenke/ Kevin Demoff.

I still dont understand why the Chargers would not move to another market. LA does not even care about the Rams. Give it another 10 years and one of the two, if not both, like before will be looking to get out of LA.

I don't think so. The stadium is new, the Market is the biggest in US. The value of both the teams basically doubled when they moved. Maybe 20-30 years when that stadiums a dump, but not 10.

Bob Kraft did it the right way when it came to building a stadium. His model is what the league should be following instead of asking for the public to pay the majority of cost:


– He built a cost effective stadium for a cool 325 million using his own funds. It's one of the best venues in the league and great to see the games in from a fan perspective, proving you don’t need billion dollar palaces that will never generate enough money to pay for themselves in their lifecycle


– He gets all the revenue from the Pats games


– He gets additional revenue from the rentals on stores, restaurants, movie theaters and nightclub in the Patriot Place complex around the stadium


– He gets all the revenues from the 20-25 MLS Revolutions games that draw 20,000+


– He gets all the revenues from concerts


This model will work almost anywhere and there is zero reason why taxpayers should subsidize billionaires in any way. The only “public money” Kraft got was the state of MA spending 50 million to improve the road system around the stadium, which was desperately needed and would have had to be done eventually anyway.


Khan seems like an owner who would look to follow a similar model when the time comes for Jacksonville to build a new stadium.
