Zero RB Strategy
|
Anyone use it this year?
I went for it, and was really really skeptical when my team was drafted as I was projected by Yahoo to finish a distant last... but it has really worked out well for me so far. Anyone have another off the wall strategy they'd like to share? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Off the wall? No, I went for balanced approach.
Went Forte, Julius Thomas, Keenan Allen, and Russell Wilson. Keenan Allen blew up in my face, even moreso I think Julio Jones was available and he's clearly taken over as the #1 for Atlanta
Quote:Off the wall? No, I went for balanced approach. I always used to use the tried and true RB, RB method but my league does auction draft and guys like Forte started going just way too high.
Last year I won my league without drafting a QB until like the 9th round and streaming QBs for most of the season.
This year I didn't do anything crazy.

I've tried a similar approach before but my league is 6 points per passing TD, so it didn't work out too well for me. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
No but I wish I would have, I'm doing ok in my 8 man league but I do wish I had better WR would make me feel easier heading down the home stretch.

I usually go RB, RB, RB in the first three rounds. If an outstanding value is there (like Peyton Manning in the second), I'll vary from that, but I try to walk away from the draft with at least three highly-rated running backs and a sleeper or two.

Yeah I used to go with a similar method but in an auction daft you'd probably blow your whole salary cap doing that and the result isn't pretty. We show less advertisements to registered users. I did the opposite, I went after Mccoy first pick even though I told myself over and over that with Sproles there now he'd get way less looks, and I should have went with that feeling. I'm 1-5 and trading anyone good I have to my friend for nothing since it's a lost cause now. Won a championship last year with Mccoy, fell hard this year.
Titansequaltrash aka my mini me. Follows me around like a cute puppy dog.

I'd have to take nothing but kickers the rest of the way to stay under the cap. The "Gene Smith strategy"?

I think in a snake draft with the 1st pick you still either have to take McCoy, Charles, or Forte. You made the right call, it just didn't work in your favor. I'd of made the same pick and I also had McCoy last year.

I'm in 2 leagues, and one of them actually has pretty crazy scores out of the QB and defense due to the point system. In that one, I drafted Rogers first and Antonio Brown second. My main RB is Chris Ivory. Surprisingly, I'm at least competitive. In that league, you can have 2 great WRs and a couple midline RBs and it usually works out just as well as the other way around.
The other league has more traditional scoring. I still went QB first (jughead), which was a mistake. Tonight he threw 4 TDs and didn't even break 30 points. One of the guys he threw 2 of the touchdowns to actually beat him in FF points. Unfortunately, my opponent had that guy.
I wanted to go RB early and often, but couldn't pass on Manning. Ended up going QB, RB, RB, RB the first 4 rounds. Kind of regret it because Morris is a disappointment, and Gerhart was a bust, and has already been cut. Bernard has done well for me though. I expected RB to be weak this year, but I didn't expect it to be this weak. I ended up picking up Oliver, and he's been a mainstay the last two weeks.
WR had so much depth, I really didn't believe in taking a WR early (before round 5).

I have Luck, Julio Jones, Jordy Nelson, and Julius Thomas. My drafted RBs were Fred Jackson, Toby Gerhart and Lamar Miller/Knowshon Moreno Now my starting backs are Lamar Miller and Jerrick McKinnon. That lineup can do some thangy-thangs.
I typically go RB RB WR WR. I'll get my QB and TE later. I usually do pretty good in my leagues. This year has been a bit weird for RBs. That strategy usually pays off but this year it has hurt a lot of people. ADP, Lacy, Charles, McCoy all drafted pretty high this year and only recently have a few of them been paying off like they should. That puts a team at a huge disadvantage when you basically whiff on your first pick. Which is hard to do in FF.
I'm not aware of the "Zero RB" strategy. All the leagues I've been a part of uses two at minimum. I don't play on yahoo, so maybe it's a yahoo thing?
The WW in my leagues are absolutely bare of RBs. You can pick up backups in hope they get playing time, but that's about it. Meanwhile, there are a handful of very serviceable WRs available. This is a reason I like to grab RBs early and often. It is much easier to fill your WR2/WR3 positions throughout the season than it is to fill your RB2/RB3.
