Keys to beating the Titans

#1

I know it's a little late but we still have time to discuss what the Jaguars need to do to win at Tennessee tomorrow. Chances are we will see Whitehurst at quarterback and Sankey, who has never started in the NFL, at running back.

 - Turn field goals into touchdowns.  Too many redzone appearances resulting in 3 points for the Jags thus far.

-  Force more turnovers. We've had a bit of a drought there too.

- Establish the run early.

- Limit the blown coverage.

What makes you think Whitehurst? Last I heard they were talking about starting Mettenberger.

I think we need to get some early pressure on Whitehurst. He seems to get rattled in the pocket.

And really, no excuse for not putting up points tomorrow. The last four games, the titans have given up 26, 33, 41 and 29 points.

Where did you hear Mettenburger? I have not heard that at all.

Every non-Jaguar-related article I read about the game lists both as possibilities.  (Locker is actually even possible - listed as questionable)

They haven't committed to any of them publicly as far as I can tell.  Probably want the Jags to have to consider all three.

I'd prefer Mettenberger but Whitehurst is an absolute stiff. One of the worst QB's I have ever seen hang around the league for a decade.

I thought they were saying Whitehurst will start, then get benched in favor of Mettenberger - if Mettenberger plays at all.

That's a bold statement, considering the QB we watched last year!!

Which quarterback? We saw two last year.

I had never heard of Charlie Whitehurst before this season, so I am surprised he has been playing 10 years.

10 keys to beating the Titans:

#1. Implement a deep passing attack for all four quarters.  Playing conservative with the lead will lead to more heartbreak.

#2. Force turnovers.  The Titans have had 7 turnovers in three games.  They were the games they lost the worst in.  When they managed not to turn the ball over, they won, or kept up with the other team.

#3. Cover Delanie Walker.  He's their leading receiver right now.  The TE position has been a difficult one for us to cover lately.

#4. Sack Whitehurst.  Get into his head, and the QB with limited action in his time in the NFL will have trouble throwing the ball.

#5. Stop them on 3rd down.  They are second last in 3rd down percentage in the league.  Keep them there.

#6. Convert 3rd downs.  We're tied with them, but their defense has been better at stopping 3rd downs than we have.  Keep the ball moving.

#7. Jump ahead early.  Make them play to come back, not to keep the lead.

#8. Defense needs to step up.  Play like they did last week, and it's winnable.

#9. Win the Time of Possession battle.  Jacksonville's Defense has been on the field more than 30 teams in the NFL.  The Titans aren't far behind us.  Let's decrease the gap, and win the ToP

#10. Get more yards per play.  The Jaguars are last in the league there.  The Titans are 12th.  It's going to be tough, but we need to earn more yards per play than 4.7.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Just show up, the tacks are horrible we shouldn't even struggle against them.

The Jaguars need to be able to play consistently good for four quarters. Not one drive or two quarters.

If the Titans play Whitehurst, they're tanking. If they play Mettenburger they're going for a possible win.

Who they'd take for, I have no idea though.

That should be a little easier with Storm Johnson starting and Toby Gerhart out.

No, Jake Locker did not practice all week because he can't grip a football. You know the Titans are taking if they start Zach Mettenberger, which is unlikely.
