Thoughts on a good chance of Mike Smith as our new Head Coach!

#1
(This post was last modified: 01-09-2017, 01:44 AM by Teal Time Radio.)

While still not final.  An Ex Gm and 20 year scout for the Bucs recently went on Sirius Xm and spoke with Zig Frassaci and said there would be no more interviews with Jaguars!  The Jaguars have honed in on there man.  A Defensive Minded coach.

Due to No other Defensive coaches we know of being interviewed.   It is widely considered that Mike Smith will be the next HC of the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Smith was the DC for the Bucs this past year.  And makes sense that smith informed everyone that he is moving on to the Jaguars.

Thoughts on Mike Smith being our new head coach?

Maybe he meant W/O?

Hahah I'm fine with Smith, he's a good/safe selection and we'd be lucky to have him.

I was hoping for Shanahan, but Smith will hopefully get us a good OC

While was pulling for Maronne and if this is in fact final.  Once again eating Crow.  The thing I love personally is he did turn the Falcons around in just one year.

Can he do it again?  All depends on his OC and the rest of his staff he selects.

That is a good point though?   If he did mean w/o or intentionally did it.   To see the rise it would get from the Jaguars fan who knows.

Can anyone find that call or clip to see if in fact it was said.   That it is a defensive minded coach?   Or did anyone catch that show and what was said?

Mike Smith would be a good hire. Its hard to find any reason why it wouldn't be.

He's gonna get crucified over his playoff record, but this is a solid hire, if true. If he can get a Mike McCoy or Norv Turner as OC, we can find ourselves very competitive with the talent we have on the roster.

It's a safe hire (if true), without the unknowns that come with McDaniels, Patricia, and/or Shanahan.

I feel like he got fired because in his last 2 years he went 10-22, which sadly is still a step up from gus

I agree. He needed a change of scenery, and the Falcons needed a fresh voice. He's proven that with a solid OC, he can run a successful program. He's a player's coach, but he's not going to be the jump around, whoop and holler rah-rah guy that Gus was. I see Smith much like Del Rio: personable, professional, but a guy that holds players accountable.

It would be a great hire in my eyes.

When Smitty was originally hired away to the falcons there was a certain sect of this fan base that thought we should've fired JDR at the time and promote Smith. He went on to have a pretty successful first run while JDR proceeded to toil in refuse. I have a feeling Smitty's second go at it will prove to be even more successful.

He's a relatable guy but don't expect any "we believe in victory" chants and ping pong and pool tables in the locker room.

I've got no complaints with Smith. Looking at his past hires for OC, he seems to bring in the right people.

I preferred Marrone originally, but Smith would likely be able to bring in a higher grade of Coordinator based on his history so I'm fine with him.

It's a good hire if true. As I think with our defensive talent he'll be able to work with them and keep it going at a high or higher level going forward. The key with his hiring though is who he selects as his offensive coordinator.

During his seven year stint in Atlanta he had two high quality coordinators between Mike Mularkey during his first five years and Dirk Koetter during his final two years. I am guessing he'll look at somebody like Mike McCoy or Norv Turner to help him in that area.

Of the bunch we have interviewed, Smith was my favorite. This would atleast keep me interested. I expect he will bring in a solid OC, who will then build a good offensive staff. I think our players would fit perfectly in his 43 scheme. I think it's a good fit. And I think you can win a championship with Mike.

I'm beyond caring who this team calls coach. -_-

It won't fix the QB problem.

I'm just thankful for a bad short term memory and NFL Draft just around the corner. Banana

I like Smith, and I thought he did a lot of good in ATL. Good to have a head coach with a few years of experience under his belt. We have absolutely no luck with the "young, up and comer" types of assistants, no matter how good they may be. And the great coaches, well if they're great, they aint going anywhere else

I also like the fact that Smith has some ties and memories to Jacksonville, good memories
