PFF gives Bortles 4th worst QB grade

#41

This kid showed more in that last one and a half games than Blaine Gabbert could ever do in 12 lifetimes. We have our QB, ladies and gentlemen. Just allow him to develop. Love his confidence and his ability to make plays in a lot of different ways.

Cecil was injured during one of his picks... never went for the ball. The one INT he threw was bad but we knew it wasn't going to be all pretty. He still gives us the razzle dazzle factor that the elite QB's provide their teams.

No pain, no gain.

Blake is a rookie in his first starting NFL game, of course he was going to make mistakes.  I felt that he did some great things, combined with a few stupid mistakes.

Its whether or not he learns over the course of this season that should worry us or not.

Otherwise enjoy the show.

Quote:I guess if you take his game completely out of context, you might arrive at that grade. I think followers of the team have to be happy with what we saw.

My only gripe is he seems to have a difficult time with his feet when he throws left. I hope it gets cleaned up.

I might be smarter than I look. Ryan O's chart seems to back up what I saw.

Some comments from Chargers players:

Freeney:

“Bortles is going to be a force in this league,” Freeney said. “But, they have to get the right weapons around him and get him some better protection.”

Weddle:

“It was tough early on,” Chargers free safety Eric Weddle said. “As a defense you’re waiting for them to get into what they’ve shown on film and they never really got into it. So, it was an adjustment. They made some plays and credit to them, but we overcame the mishaps and really put it to them.”

“He’s got a bright future,” Weddle said. “I’ve got nothing but high regard for him. He was composed and it was hard to get him down sack-wise. So, going against a guy like that you always have that fear of him running around and extending plays as he did late in the fourth quarter. He ran around and found a guy.”

“Their team is going to go as he goes,” Weddle said. “So, my advice to him would be to have a good attitude and don’t let losses determine how you work or your effort and attitude. It seems like he’s on his way to achieving that.”

Flowers:

“Bortles is a very poised quarterback,” Flowers said. “He made some key throws early. It didn’t take me by surprise. I used to watch him in college. I always thought he was a great quarterback. He was the top quarterback taken for a reason. He definitely has all the tools and the sky is the limit for him.”

Nah, you're still stoopid.

Quote:He isn't staring down his primary target.

Well, the TV announcers mentioned on more than one occasion that BB stared down his receivers and the defense was reading his eyes.

But, it obviously wasn't all the time.
