We're trying to re-evaluate everything and see which guys can take an opportoonity and finish strong in this scheme. I think the younger guys are having some mental errors, but overall they're doing a really great job. It's a challenge now... It's a challenge, but I have faith that our guys will keep working hard and they'll continue to get even better.

They play man-to-man and they also play plenty of cover-3 and cover 1.

This helps to see why not having a stud FS is hurting this scheme badly:

But sometimes it looks like we don't have the talent to play zone. What kind of talent do we need to play zone correctly?

Seattle plays mainly zone, not man.

Jonathan Cyprien completely shut down Antonio Gates, so yes, sometimes.

JW, just because Cyprien was doing his job, doesn't mean we can sometimes play zone. If the entire defense can't play average mediocre zone almost every play, we just can't play it. So there isn't a sometimes.

If only we had four Cypriens back there . . .

I should be asking you the same thing.

Watch the all-22. They play a cover 3 scheme in which the corners are allowed the freedom to follow their man if they see nobody else on the outside.

Here you go:

Quote:

But the core of Seattle’s defense is what is generally called a “4-3 Under’’ front, using four defensive linemen and three linebackers. Under means the four linemen are typically aligned away from the offense’s strong side (where the tight end lines up) with a linebacker stationed on the line of scrimmage on the strong side.

<p style="color:rgb(48,48,48);font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The secondary, meanwhile, relies heavily on what is called “Cover Three” or three-deep zone — three defensive backs splitting coverage into three sections.

If we don't go for McCourty, Orakpo, Flowers, or Antonio Cromartie, I will completely shut down and burn my jagwire gear. We need FA defensive signings. The draft isn't going to fix it. Cyprien and MAYBE Colvin can't carry this defense on their backs.

LOL. Obviously the Jags need more than that - but that's what the article I linked best illustrates. And it may be the most vital position to the success of this scheme - especially in the secondary.

So you won't be a Jaguars fan when we finally get all of our problems fixed?

No, I'll still be a fan, but I'll be a fan with burned gear.

I don't think the scheme is all the much to blame this week. Guy blew a coverage but other than that most of the big plays were just good plays. People like to say that Rivers found the open guy. Well in this case if you think back in the game try to remember how many times the ball was thrown to Keenan Allen. That wasn't on our scheme or Rivers finding the open man. That was all about Keenan Allan beating who ever was covering him. He was the best player on the field today.
