How will we use our cap space?
|
Defense:
Our entire secondary (LB's, DB's) need a massive upgrade. It doesn't even seem like we're getting better and learning what to do, but completely getting outplayed and just not good enough to keep up with the opposing players. The defensive line needs a small upgrade for a pass rush, because it's not possible to win if the QB can sit in the pocket for an hour to find a wide open receiver in zone coverage. Youth isn't an excuse anymore and I'm tired of hearing about it. Sure, it hurts that a lot of them are young, but we should see improvement from all 4 quarters... not only the 1st. We will improve as the year goes on, but not enough to take the AFC South next year... Offense: We found our QB and we have a great up and coming receiving group, but our offensive line could use some help still and an above average RB that works with Denard. Gerhart isn't cutting it, and Denard seems like the only one capable of running the ball for explosive/small gains. The Offense doesn't need as much help as the Defense, but it still needs some pieces. **TL;DR** - Now the big question. Who can we actually get from FA that will instantly help this team? We've had a large cap space for awhile now, and Caldwell decided to take average players and try to improve them, but that doesn't seem to be working with our 2nd year starting at 0-4 getting blown out. Spend the money on proven players that will help this team compete. Who do you think we should or will get at the end of the season? And no more trash signings like Zane Beadles and Toby Gerhart. 30 million down the drain...

McCourty would be a great player to go after.
Colvin SHOULD upgrade the CBs.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
I'm not a huge fan of spending a crazy amount of money in FA but we need help and I think Caldwell's back will be against the wall. He's going to spend some $$$ this offseason
He needs to spend money now. Get some dudes out of retirement. Open casting call. PANICCCCC

O-Line needs help as well, so FA OG/C would be on my radar.....Luke hasn't looked that hot either so far....is he playing hurt or something or am I off here??
LOVE THEM JAGUARS!
Quote: Luke isn't playing hurt, he's just sucking.

I would hope we go after the top guy. I mean that Mario Williams, Byrd caliber player. I think we have a few guys but we don't have a truly dominant player that can cover for other players and make them better.
There's no reason not to go for the top players. Do what Denver did this past off-season... Upgrade the entire defense and spend the money. They still weren't able to hold Seattle last week, but they sure did bring it down to the wire. They'll have no other option but to spend the $$$ after this year IF they want to stick to the plan and compete for the AFC South title next year.

When you have that guy, everything else falls in place. They may go spending crazy now lol
How about we use just a bit of it now and sign FS Chris Clemons. He was graded a +7.2 in coverage last year by PFF but was inexplicably cut by the Texans just before the season started. Can't be worse than the Guy/Evans combo.
All I know is Caldwell better make it rain this offseason. This team has many more issues that a draft just can't fix.

Yep, can't rely on a draft to fix this team at all. We need the star players that can step up and make the big boy plays.

We'll cut Poz, Lewis, and Henne in the offseason and that should give us about $40 M in cap space - FAR more than any other NFL team. We need to go after the elite talent this offseason.

I don't know but we're in need of a talent infusion big time. When your "captains" out there before a game include players like Henne and Alualu, you know there is a serious lack of quality on your team. We needs some beast, Justin Blackmon and MJD type of game-changers.
Uhh, other teams don't want them because they can't afford them anymore... Are you telling me Aqib Talib, Brandon Flowers, TJ Ward, Emmanuel Sanders and Jairus Byrd aren't good? Please man, you don't build a successful team just from 7 draft picks a year. That would take about 10 drafts.
2015?
Quote:Free agency is fool's gold Yep. I think TB was one of the NFC darlings this year because they were active in free agency (Verner & Goldson) and we see how they've looked so far |
