The Florida-Alabama game last Saturday got a higher rating than Sunday's Jaguar game with a rating of 21 with a 37 share and was viewed in 142,000 households in Jacksonville.

 

That game also got higher local ratings than the Redskins-Jaguars game the week prior, so you cannot just say it's because it was a home game.

 

 

 

For the second game in Washington, it dropped to 20.5 and a 38 share and 138,000 households.

 

 

As the article mentions, starting Bortles could help, as will winning. But for now, the team is struggling to attract an audience in it's own home market.

I wonder how that compares to other NFL markets. In any case, multiple years of losing will have that kind of impact.

Not a surprise. Jacksonville has been a college football town forever. Khan and crew are trying to change that now. It also fails to factor in the 60k potential TV viewers who are at the stadium and not watching a TV.

I could be wrong but I believe until recently it was the other way around at least in Jacksonville itself.

However, this is really cherry picking quite the exceptions.

 

You're putting up the Gators (the most popular college team in the area) playing a good game (in it into the third quarter) against a true blue chip opponent (Alabama) against Jaguars games that were against uninteresting opponents and which were blow-outs with no chance of come-back at halftime.

 

With Bortles in the game we'll see more competitive play and the Gators won't be playing a blue chip opponent every week.

 

Overall the Jaguars always have drawn and will continue to draw stronger viewership than the Gators.

Idk if this is the point youre making but football in the northeast is nothing like football down south.


No one watches college football up there. So no matter what the patriots would always outdraw a local college game.


Either way, down here, not only do people just enjoy college football more, but keep in mind that a lot of people living in Jacksonville either went to or have family that went to the university of Florida.


The local ties increase the interest, alumni will always wanna watch their alma mater, and people have long been getting degrees and attending UF, way before the jaguars even existed.

San Diego is probably going to be blacked out in their home market this weekend.  What's your point?

 

We haven't had a winning team in Jacksonville since Garrard in Pittsburgh, and even then it was a one year wonder.

 

The Gators are a college team with hundreds of thousands of alumni, many of which are going to be local viewers.  Not to mention the Gators have actually won national titles within the last 10 years.

 

I'm not a gators fan, but I can understand TV ratings being better for the freaking Alabama game than for our Redskins or Colts game with Chad Henne starting.

 

I care about ticket sales/distribution for our home games.  That's where the exposure comes into play.  The more those are sold out, the more our games will draw local interest.  The more Bortles plays, hopefully the more the team wins.  The TV market will be there.  Worry about butts in the seats.
