Who will be our offensive captain now?

#1

Chad Henne's demotion means he can't do what captains do during games. The other offensive captain is Marcedes Lewis, who can't be taken off IR until the bye week. I know captains don't change because of injuries but usually the quarterback voted captain does not get demoted during the third game.

Good question. I have no idea...Shorts?

I would give it to Allen Hurns.  He seems to be the only one who could pride themselves on their level of play so far.

Some teams change captains weekly.  Including the Texans, Packers, Lions, Vikings, Eagles, Falcons, Ravens, and Bears.  We might not change captains at all.  I don't think the Cardinals did, though Drew Stanton has been starting recently.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

It's crazy that it only took 2 1/2 games for Henne to bench himself.  It seemed like a whole season.

Anyways, it should be Bortles by a landslide.

The team was ridiculous enough to make Henne the captain, knowing full well this was likely to happen early in the season, he can keep being the captain, because apparently he's "great in the locker room."

We won't do it. Chad Henne said in the locker room he will continue to be the captain. Also, my understanding of the C patch rule is if a player has one, he must be the captain all season.

Nobody knew it was going to happen this early. The plan was he would be the starter all season. That did not change until yesterday.

Says who? David Caldwell said during the draft that was the plan. Gus Bradley confirmed it on NFLTA during preseason.

I'm aware of no such rule.  Now, that doesn't mean there isn't one.  But given that several teams change theirs weekly, I don't think that's the case.

People actually concern themselves with who the captains are?
Huh

The players saw Bortles, and they saw Henne.

Maybe the players were arrogant enough to think they could carry Henne, but it doesn't really matter, it was an absurd choice for a team captain going by quality of play on the field.

Apparently the team wanted to appoint someone good in the locker room as a captain, and if that's what they were choosing by then what's really changed except that no one will have to suffer through having him under center any longer?

Laughing

the "plan" was to start Chad. And Bortles would start "when ready".

If you can provide a direct quote to what you say is true, please provide it. And I'll still laugh that you would believe it.

Anyone, who has EVER watched football, especially Henne, knew the "plan" never involved Henne starting 16 games.

The way he's been treated makes me think that he won't have the captain patch taken off his jersey this season.  It'll probably be Bortles next season.  I'm fine with that, doesn't really mean much anyways.

I was not concerned during the first two games because nobody knew Blake Bortles will be the starter in San Diego. I also did not know when Marcedes Lewis got hurt his injury would cost him 8 weeks because he was able to limp off.

Me! Smile

The quarter back is the leader of the offensive line. Its that simple.

Really does it make a difference. They don't do anything special, its just a title to make them feel good. :teehee:

NFL Network reported it during the draft. They did not quote David Caldwell, just put it on the scrolling text at the bottom of the screen.
