Bortles looked exactly like he did in preseason + Fisch's playcalling

#1

nearly 10 YPA, TD/INt 1:1, Chunks of yardage, etc. Calm, Collected, and in command. The one thing that stood out was Bortles' ability to sell the run/play action. It was manning level good and fooled the defense three times. Two of them for chunks of run yardage. We saw Bortles throw INTs and then go right back the next series with more shots downfield.

What I really liked however was Jedd Fisch willing to do more tricks with Bortles in there as well as keep taking shots downfield. Was it really henne holding Fisch back? This could get it real interesting.

Bortles might not win alot this year but I am very certain hes gonna make games interesting to watch again. Thats all I ever wanted. A reason to watch.

I've been saying it all along, Jedd Fisch is fine, give the guy a competent QB before you judge him.

I just find it odd and unsettling that a coordinator would neuter his offense down to street ball plays just because of one incompetent player. It also seems to be the way of the NFL as a whole not just Fisch.

I agree, it was exciting to watch him play.  That first INT was more of a great play on defense than Bortles fault I felt by Vonte Davis.  A couple dropped passes that shouldve been caught, but that is because they didnt have the time (reps) with Bortles so some of that should improve over the next week or two.  A couple bad passes and poor choices by Blake, but he's a rookie that's going to happen & a few of it can be chopped up by nerves.  The Chargers will game plan for Blake, and I expect a lot of blitzes for the rookie probably stunts since he likes to roll out.

It really didn't help that Robinson fell down instead of making a play for the ball.

I don't think it's been neutered down; odds are it's exactly the same. The difference is Blake extends plays and is naturally more aggressive than Chad.

Exactly.

There was nothing unaggressive about the scheme, they even tried a flea flicker. The problem was the QB. The QB holds the team back, or lifts the team up. Henne was just another Gabbert level QB holding the team back and Bortles is an Andrew Luck level QB who will continually lift the team up.

A few times I've seriously questioned his play calling this season, but he is void of talent at a few key positions too...

Yep, all of sudden the offensive line looked better as well, PFF gave 3 out of the 5 starters positive grades. Maybe that has something do with a more decisive QB under center, he clearly processes information faster than Chad and extends plays with his feet, but he always maintains his eye level downfield.  Good QB's hides so many deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball, the 2013 Colts were basically the same offense as the 2011 Colts, the only difference is the transcendent talent that is Andrew Luck.

Yeah, in the future you'd like to see him fight for that ball.  He was covered well, but didn't really make it hard for the DB.

You bet; he had arguably the worst starting QB in the NFL, a young offensive line and rookie receivers. I mean, good luck calling plays.

It was simply exciting to see a Jaguar QB give a receiver a chance downfield with one on one coverage, I don't mind the throw at all

I don't mind the throw; hopefully it didn't sound like I did.  I just would like to see the receiver contest that a bit more, but as someone said, it looked like Robinson fell down.

Definitely, I expect A-Rob to win a lot of those one on one jump ball situations because of his size and incredible leaping ability (I believe he jumped 42 inches at Penn States pro day). Our offense has a chance to be special once the offensive line is settled and Marqise Lee is integrated in.

One thing about Bortles that I really like, and that is, we are going to see a lot fewer 3-and-outs.   We'll have touchdowns, we'll have interceptions, but at least it'll be interesting.  It seems like almost all his passes are for big chunks of yardage.  That is phenomenal.   No more passes where the receiver has to try and run for the first down.  It's aggressive.   It's "I am going to throw the ball down field come hell or high water."   It's unafraid.   He doesn't want 5 yards, he wants 30 yards.  You have to love it.

Yep, the guy is naturally aggressive, I love it. He has the arm talent to stretch the field horizontally and vertically, he reads hi to low as opposed low to hi, trust what he sees in rips the ball. Just wait until Jaguars get their run game going, play action is going to be lethal with a guy like Blake.

Thanks for this.  I'm so sick of all the naive Fisch bashers.

About Fisch, horrible QB or not, a lot of his playcalling this year and last has been questionable at best.  Either he's trolling or he sucks, but his ineptitude will likely be hidden by good QB play.

Be specific, what plays are you talking about? Everyone was on Dirk Koetter while he was in Jax as well; he turned out to be a pretty good coordinator once he was paired with Matt Ryan. If you truly think Jedd Fisch, a coach that is obviously competent enough to land a job as an offensive coordinator in the NFL is inept; I don't know what to tell you.
