We got to get Toby up outta there

Like now. DRob its your time to run the ball. I will not keep spending $300 for food and drinks and parking to walk 3 miles all the way from my car to my seats to watch this FULL BACK get 1 yard and a cloud of dust.

What gives?

He is noticeably slow versus linebackers and DBs.

Worst RB in the league?

Worst starting rb in the league.....possibly

Why don't you give him a few weeks behind a QB the opposition fears so he won't have to run through a stacked box and see how he fares... Right now, he gets a pass.

He is a smash-mouth objective focused RB. He would be great for getting that tough yard for a 1st down, or getting across the goal-line. I don't see him being a franchise running back like Fred or MJD...ever. Our best bet is to use Drob and draft Todd Gurley.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again, once bortles came in, gerhart was immediately more effective.

Teams never feared the pass before, gerhart was just getting demolished behind the line before he even got going, sometimes before he even got the ball.

I refuse to judge him until our idiot of a coordinator learns to stop running him outside.

Bingo.  So tired of seeing this run 6x a game for negative yardage.  You don't run power backs to the outside.  It also does not help this team runs against a stacked box all the time.  With Bortles going deep they are going to have to back off.

I find it interesting that in the limited time I have been watching, D-Rob breaks more tackles than Slo-mo and appears to run harder.

Eh --  Gerhart has been very unimpressive, and I want Denard to get more touches, but I do still think Gerhart is capable behind a better line. I haven't given up on him just yet. Let's not forget that he's banged up as well.  He's definitely not what they thought he would be, but neither is the line.  When there's a hole to hit, he usually gains between 4 and 9 yards. But that hasn't happened much.  If the line improves and he's not averaging 4+ yds per carry, then we have a problem. Luckily his deal won't cost us too much if they release him after this year.

If your a starting RB then you should be able to run outside or inside.

If not then you shouldnt be starting

He had a couple/few/one (don't remember) nice runs before Bortles and then got some serious chunks of yards when Bortles came in. Which is nice, obviously.

But what really impressed me was that he was actually running over guys today. I was pretty outspoken this past week about how Toby was going down at first contact and arm tackles. Today though, I don't know if he broke many tackles, but he was definitely going forward after initial contact on a lot of his runs. He wasn't letting guys stuff him and push him back. He was pushing defenders forward and picking up an extra yard or two. I don't think I saw him do that once the first 2 weeks. I don't know if that ankle injury was impacting him more than he let on, but I was pleasantly surprised with his play today. If he can continue playing like he did today, I'll be happy with him. He probably won't be a 1,000 yard runner or racking up 100 yard games consistently, but if he's out there bowling over guys and punishing the D on his runs like he did today, it should tire out opposing defenses, which should open things up for guys like Shoelace, Ace, Lee, and apparently now Hurns, to run through, and around, them the later into games it gets. Plus, it should, hopefully, allow for him to finally start converting short yard situations, which will help the offense in general.

Obviously all eyes will be on Blake next week, but, I'll be keeping an eye on Toby's running as well. Toby's effectiveness as a power-runner will be a subtle nuance to this offense that can be very, very, helpful for Blake's development or just a giant albatross for Blake to have to deal with. Either way, I think Toby showed what he was brought in to do today, so I'll consider that a good game for him. Props to Toby. I hope he's able to keep it up.

Edit: To elaborate on this and address some pre-emeptive concerns that I think will pop up in response to this post, think of Toby as this team's less-good Brandon Jacobs, and Shoelace as Derrick Ward, from the 2007 and 2008 New York Giants. As a single feature back, Jacobs probably wasn't near the top of the list for best backs. He didn't have the breakaway speed or homerun ability, but he was consistent and was a successful power runner. Derrick Ward was the speedy scatback with little power. He proceeded to completely fall off a cliff as soon as he left New York and didn't have Jacobs tiring defenses out for him. Individually, neither is what you'd want as a feature back, but they complimented each other so well they formed one of the more underrated rushing duos in the league for those 2 years (superbowl win one year, most team rushing yards in the league the next). I'm not saying Toby and Shoelace will be as effective, nor are my expectations that high for them, but I imagine a working relationship like that, which should be effective.

He lined up at FB on Denard's long run. I would say to move him there permanently, but no chance he beats out Ta'ufo'ou.
