Why does Bob Babich get a pass here?

#1

The message board is all over Jedd Fisch and, to a lesser degree, Gus Bradley but...there is nobody calling for Babich's head. The defense, which was supposed to keep us in the game while the offense struggles and grows, has been horrible.

Missed assignments, bad tackling, safeties looking at each other while a receiver is 20 yards behind them and the D has given up 40 points per game (and 529 yards of offense today) yet all the talk is about Fisch and his play calling. Go figure.

IMO, Babich has to go.

He shouldn't get a pass. The defense had a good half, and they've been on their heels ever since. The line has been underwhelming.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

He'll be demoted in a few weeks

I'd guess because it's supposed to be Bradley's defense. The entire coaching staff needs to work on some things though.  They seem a little stubborn at times.  I wonder if it's because Gus doesn't want to overreact with all the emotion he has, or what.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Let's see......no pass rush, players constantly out of position and taking the wrong angles, missed tackles, tight ends burning our linebackers, defensive backs and safeties looking like deer caught in headlights, defensive line getting pushed back 5 yards on every rushing play, offsides penalties at crucial points in the game..............yep, an awesome defense.

I don't see Gus containing himself. Watch the guy during games on the sideline. He's all over the place. Those refs probably hate the guy as much as he's in their ears.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the defense. I got tired of watching such poor play from our linebackers. I'm of the opinion they are the main issue along with the other linebacker Winston Guy at safety. He is awful. Guy would be good 25 years ago, but this is the new NFL where you need safeties that can cover.

There's a lack of attention to detail when it comes to the basics.

How are missed tackles and blown assignments the fault of the DC?  Sometimes, the players just suck.

Missed tackles, poor pass rush, and tight ends exploiting this defense have been chronic problems just as long as the QB and WR problems have been.

You don't see too many complaining about that though. Too much Prisco, and not enough rational thought maybe?

He does not get a pass.  The people who understand football know this.  His soft zones and 4 man rushes on 3rd and long are not getting it done.  The play calling has been horrendous and he has this defense unprepared even doing the simple things.

Right you are, Captain Obvious.

I forget he even exists to be honest. I associate our defense with Gus.

The Jags defense is running a scheme that needs two key pieces to be efficient, a productive Leo and a rangy Free safety.

They don't have those pieces.

Maybe Babich & Bradley should run a different scheme then.

We can't cover any part of the field anyway so I vote for blitzing on every down!

After all the big plays we gave up the last two weeks, it looks like we were playing old school Mike Smith bend don't break defense. I'd rather die fast. Blitz and see if you can force a turnover.
