Is it just me or do almost half of our players actually have uncommon first names? I counted 43 players (including Ace and Marcedes) and a coach (Jedd) whose real first names are either totally weird or relatively uncommon. Check these out:

Maybe some of these names are more common than I thought, but even so, over half of the players on our team has uncommon or rare first names. Gus said his name's Paul during his introductory press conference, so I am not counting him, but you can if you want to. Before Gus, people called him Casey.

 

I am not including Shahid because he is an immigrant, so for where he is from (Pakistan), it may be a common name. But I don't care if you count him too.

 

If the Jaguars don't have the most guys with unusual first names in the NFL, I can't imagine what team does.

Blake is a pretty common name, as I've known two people with that name.  It's also a name that's unisex. 

 

Luke I AM YOUR FATHER.  We even have two luke's on the team.  Luke Duke?  Luke Wilson?  

 

Zane is a little unusual.  Though it's also a surname.  Billy Zane.

 

Jaques is a french name that is very common.

 

Carson Palmer?  Carson Daly?


Tyler is a common name too.  Tyler Perry?  Tyler Durden?


Austin is also a common name.  As is Dallas and Houston.  Other texas names.  Austin Powers anyone?

 

Toby is a very common name.  Short for Tobias usually.  Toby Keith.  Toby Maguire.


Denard isn't very common, though there was Denard Walker.

 

I wasn't aware we had anyone named Westleigh on the team.  Probably just an alternate spelling of Wesley though.  Which is again common.  Wesley Snipes.

 

Clayton isn't that unusual, and most of them go by Clay.  Clay Aiken for example.

 

Marcel Marceau?  Marcel Duchamp?  


Cecil is a common name too.  It's a fairly English name though.

 

Kerry is pretty common too, though more commonly Carrie, for a girl.

 

Tyson is a pretty common name.  It's also a surname, Mike Tyson

 

Ziggy.. haven't you ever heard of the comic Ziggy?  It's a nickname for Ezekiel.  Which is a common biblical name.  Also his name is Evander, and there's Evander Holyfield.

 

Andre is very common.  Andre the Giant.  Andre Agassi.  

 

Red Bryant's first name is Joe.  You have Red Skelton though.  


Geno is an Italian name.   And it's an alternate spelling of Gino


Dekoda is probably just an alternate spelling.  Dakota Fanning for example.

 

Dwayne is a very common name.  Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.  Can also be spelled Duane.

 

Winston Churchill? Also, who you gonna call?  Winston Zeddemore.

 

Mickey Mouse?  Mickey Mantle?  MIckey Rourke?  Mickey Cohen? 


Demetrius is a very old name, and was the name of a character from A Midsummer Night's Dream.

 

DeAndre is pretty common in sports.  


Marcus Aurelius?  Marc Antony?  Marcus Allen?


Peyton Manning?  Peyton List (There were two actresses).  Peyton Randolph (there were two politicians) 


Marcedes is just another Mercedes.  Which is a car company, and you also have Mercedes McNabb from Buffy.

 

Damian is a common name.  Another spelling is Damien, the baby from the omen.  

 

Bradie is just another spelling of Brady.  Brady Anderson for example.

 

Deion is pretty common too.  Deion Sanders.  Deion Branch.

 

Ace is common as well.  Though his first name is Tracy which is very common.

I did not know we had a Westleigh on the team either . . . until I saw his name on a recent injury report. He is the guy everyone calls Storm.

 

I was thinking Tyson is weird as a first name, BTW.

 

I always thought Marc was just a different spelling for Mark.

Tracy is common for a girl, not so much for boys.
