Bad Behavior Free Ride is OVER

Quote:Yes alcohol abused impares judgement.Just about anything abused will impare judgement.Enjoying AB products prudently and wisely has been a hallmark of their advertising for years. It is the fact that the LARGEST Advertiser by far for the NFL has said get your house in order.AB spent 189,000,000.00 in advertising time last season and that does not include regional and local, they are closer to a quarter billion dollars. That is not chump change and the League and NFLPA know it.Pepsico, VISA and a host of others have also let their displeasure be known.NO BUCKS..........NO Buck Rogers errrrrr Arian Foster.HeadSlap

Did you say " enjoying AB products"?

Did they come up with a new beer?

If not..

Quote:Does this mean everyone contributing to the booze and beer threads, especially the folks expressing infatuation with beer, are domestic abusers?
Of course not.

They've opened Pandora's Box on this issue, that's for sure and the witch hunt is about to begin. All players with any sort of domestic violence history will be exposed and vilified and the NFL will move to an even more sanitized, choirboy league.

The NFL is caught in a quandary and Mr. Goodell has quite a tightrope to walk. The explosive growth of fantasy football in recent years has brought in millions of female fans who now understand and enjoy the game. They all buy NFL clothing for themselves and for others and have become a definite revenue stream. He can't offend that cohort.

He also needs to appease the sponsors as they are starting to stir around and the owners have taken notice. This group is obviously the straw that stirs the drink. If sponsors start to fall away, look out.

He did the right thing, IMO, in appointing those three women (I don't know anything about them, just sayin') but he has opened the door, they charged in and it will never be closed. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

Football is a violent sport played by violent men with, often, limited educations. Look at the "Arrest Meter" over on PFT- they probably started that as a joke but now it's a permanent joke and it's getting less funny. It currently stands at 5 (5 days since an NFL player was arrested) and I've never seen it over about 15.

OP HeadSlap is correct, the bad behavior ride is over. Now let the witch hunt begin.

Though we've had a few incidents bunched together it's still a minute percentage of the NFL that is causing problems. I'd wager that the number of DV incidents among NFL players as a percentage of the whole is significantly lower than the population at large. The outrage needs to be against failure of the league to have a plan for dealing with violent behaviors rather than the actual acts themselves, those are almost insignificant in the bigger picture if the league were prepared to deal with them fairly and consistently. At the same time, the number of these incidents have been so few, especially when we scale it down from "violent behavior" to adjective-based, highly-situational "domestic violence" that it's reasonable to assume that it hasn't been a problem until this one particular high publicity incident followed immediately by a few others brought it to light.

I understand some men are also of the opinion that violence towards women is wrong. Hell, there are some crazy people out there who think even violence against people who are neither women nor children is bad.

That said, I'm a bit concerned in some cases we're heading towards a policy of banning for bad behaviour rather than giving people a chance to put their house in order. AP in particular seems like a case where a lengthy ban shouldn't be called for if he can adjust his behaviour. It's madness to discipline someone harshly for something that they probably didn't even realise was wrong at any level.

I think in AP's case the courts will decide. If those pics are legit that guy may get rung up on felony charges and do jail time.

He might if he wants to "beat" the charges. Hey, maybe you've "hit" on a good idea here... something something "torn scrotum"...

Quote:So if someone beats their wife or kids, that's because of alcohol? Do we know that AP or Rice was intoxicated when they did what they did?

AF needs to get off his high horse. What is AB suppose to do? Keep their mouth shut?

The point everyone is making isn't about the alocohol or beating your wife. It's about calling someone out for something wrong when you yourself does something that is not only wrong but contributes to most of the ills that you are so adamently speaking out against.

That is the definition of irony
