NCAA officiating crews

I started wondering if certain conferences are better or worse at hiring game officials after seeing Florida get very lucky to win Saturday night. Sure, it was only one error, but that one affected each team's record when all was said and done. I also saw an error in the penalty yardage - half the distance to the goal instead of at the 2 for DFI in the end zone. That could have been the difference between a touchdown and a field goal. (Yes, interference by the defense was called.) Has anyone noticed the SEC officials making more bad calls and/or another conference's officials making fewer bad calls?

Over the course of a player or coaches career bad calls tend to even out in general. It's the nature of the beast. It'll never be pefect. For what it's worth, the SEC released a statement saying that the back judge watches the play clock when it gets to :01 he looks at the ball. If the ball is in any sort of motion being snapped the play is good. Tough to see that on the replays.

I'm still bitter about the officiating in the Vandy-Florida game years ago in the Swamp when Jay Cutler had the Gators beat. But thanks to a bogus celebration penalty they werent allowed to go for 2 and the win!

I thought the call was close, but regardless...the Gators were so out of sorts that it was lucky they were able to run a play like that. If they took the five yard penalty and regrouped I think they would have had just a good a chance.
It was a really good job by Driskell to keep his composure knowing the clock was that close.

But thanks to a bogus celebration penalty they werent allowed to go for 2 and the win! How can they do that if the penalty is assessed on the kickoff? One reason I don't like the NCAA is they think what is OK in the NFL is an excessive celebration. Often I think a celebration is perfectly acceptable and someone throws a flag.
