Who Gets Paid 2015

#1

Shorts has been looking expendable & undeserving of a significant contract. We have a very young team with no immediate extensions of concern. We have lots of cap space, even moreso whenever we let Lewis walk.

We can afford any FA, who do we pay? Which hole gets filled?

I think Devin Mccourty will be at  the top of the Jaguars wish list. They need a safety who can fit the center field role that Earl Thomas does. Devin is good enough to do that. He obviously would be very expensive but the Jaguars have a stupid of cap space so they can pay him.

Ryan Davis and Alan Ball will get paid handsomely if they play all season like they did yesterday.

(Davis will be an ERFA so they don't have to pay him if they choose not to, but it would be nice to see him get a decent deal if he finishes as strong as he started.)

Per this list:

I would resign: Miller Shorts Davis Pazstor Ball and assume they will all be major contributors/ starters.

I would also bring Brown, Will T, Hayes back to camp.

I'd like to see a Davis deal halfway through the season. His agent would be best to make him wait till the end of the season or when his contract is up.

Hurns has a 3 year deal and in the 4th he'd be a rfa. So glad to have him on the roster for basically no cost (1.5m total).

It he's an Restricted FA there's absolutely no rush.

I feel as if he and the entire team/defense will get better as the season progresses. He'd be much cheaper halfway through the season. Either way I like him last year and this year he'll be proving his worth. 4 year deal for 5 to 7 million would fit. If we wait till rfa he'll fetch more.

They can pay him 510K and keep him. He'd have to retire for a season before signing with another team. The question is - will they pay him closer to what he shows on the field ?  (assuming he keeps it up).

They didn't pay Pasztor much more than the minimum after he played great in ~7 of the 9 starts he had last year. He was also an ERFA - as Davis will be next season.

No. RFA is basically a transition tag for younger players who haven't tenured 4 years in the NFL.

Here's a good explication:

He's an exclusive rights free agent  -- so it's even easier for the team to retain him cheaply.

Agreed. No reason to overpay when we can retain him for under 1 mill.
