Yup. Good read. All the predictions about who might or might not play well go out the window. Football is back and Sunday we finally get to see our Jags on regular season action. Let's hope for the best!

The article in OP rings true.  Pressure on Henne and the effectiveness of Philly's RBs and TEs in the passing game will be big tests for the Jags. 

 

The Jags LBs and Safeties will have to come up big against the run and the pass in this one. While I don't think they'll do enough, I have more confidence in that group than I do in McClendon and Bradfield protecting the QB.  

 

(I know Bradfield did pretty well at LT after Joeckel's injury last year, but I haven't liked what I've seen in preseason from him at times.)

I'm interested in seeing how the run defense does against who I consider one of the top 2 RBs in the league.  Shady McCoy is great and I love to watch him play.

 

I'm equally interested in seeing how the middle of our defense can do in stopping the TE's.  If they can stop Ertz/Celek that will leave me encouraged.

 

I think the Eagles are likely to pull this one off but I think it ends up closer than some think.  I think our running game will struggle against their run D.  Especially as bad as the run blocking looked all pre-season.  Denard Robinson is a sleeper for me though.  I want to see how/if Fisch gets creative with him on offense because when given the ball in space he made stuff happen this pre-season.  I don't expect the interior running game to be much of a factor so how they use Robinson could make a difference.

The tweaking of the LB corps and scheme as well as the expected improvement from the safeties should help, but I expect it will still be an issue for the Jags. Hopefully not a huge one.

He has looked scary bad at times this preseason.

 

Before, i was confident we could get quality play from him if one of the tackles went down.  Now I am not so sure.

I am hoping somehow we can exploit the absence of Lane Johnson to cause some disruption in their offense.

 

I am also hoping we can cobble enough cohesion in the OL to get a running game going to give our defense a rest and keep Henne and the offense out of obvious passing situations.

Oddly -  I thought he did better last season at LT than he did at RT in 2012 overall (except for a handful of whiffs.)

 

But that perspective may be tainted by my general surprise of him not being a complete turnstile at LT last year.

It's a good first test to see just how good that first team line is.  They haven't really tipped their hand in the preseason to give us any indication as to what we should expect, but I have a feeling the revamped defense is going to be an absolute blast to watch. Not quite on par with Seattle, but headed in that direction.

Can't wait to see cyprien vs sproles or Poz vs McCoy. Hopefully henne can keep 9 men out of the box otherwise it'll be a long day on offense.
