Denard and #16

#1

Now that Denard is listed primarily as a running back, doesn't the league dictate he swap numbers? Aren't RB's supposed to be 20-49?

He's doomed!  Another one of those teen numbers!

To circumvent the change, they list him at WR.

Add to that he's wearing black this weekend and it's quite possible he doesn't make it home alive.

Who's wearing black this weekend?

Even if he was listed officially at RB, I think he'd be able to keep #16 and exploit the same loophole Devin Hester did while with the Bears.

I know he was #23, but what loophole was that?

Was that loophole similar to the double secret probation Goodell has on the Jaguars?

That'll benefit him greatly when contract time rolls around.

Not really. Not like he will be paid like a WR or be sniffing the franchise tag anytime soon.

Seriously, I'm very excited for D-Rob!

I'm assuming the move up to #2 means the coaches feel he's fixed his fumbling issues from last year.  This could be a huge break out season for him!!!

Considering the guy went from a QB to having to suck up his pride and find a new position, it really speaks to his passion for football and his work ethic.  Congrats Denard!  You earned it, baby!  He's the type of Jaguar could give the franchise some nice publicity.

I heard it explained several years ago so this may not be entirely accurate.

But it was something along the lines of a player that changes positions can keep the number from his previous position as long as it's within the eligible receiver range...assuming they're changing from a skill position to skill position. Which is what Denard would be doing.

I dont think it was ever a matter of sucking up his pride. He always has come across as a humble kid who was willing to do what it took to help the team and make the roster. If he has truly overcome his nerve issue, the future looks bright for him. He's quickly and quietly become one of my favorite players.

That makes sense. Guess it explains Mike Furrey switching from S to WR and back.

Oh, no doubt.  But in the age of divas, it was refreshing to see him come right in and be ready to compete and learn a new position.  He knew straight from the draft that he wasn't going to be a QB.  And, based on his success learning a new position, there was no sulking.  It appears he took it on as a new challenge and grew from it.

I agree, he's really making an impression on me as well.  He might very well be one of my favorite players by the end of this season.  Him and Bortle's girlfriend...  Heyooooooooo

What loophole let Devin Hester keep #23?

I wonder if any other teams list a player as the wrong position just to let him wear his college number.
