NYC's Insomniac Quick 1st Quarter Breakdown

#1

OK.   - after re-watching the 1st quarter - here are my quick draw reactions to what happened:

---------------------------------------

--   first drive - cyprien had a pick go off his hands - was a bullet pass that would be an impressive catch - but still catchable

Guy had a pick off his hands too  - was not an easy grab either
Stafford got off easy on that drive

 - Marks and Branch had  nice pressure on one play early

- run stuffing just not there by our revamped D-line

 - note; mike brown on punt return duty early - staff giving him extra options to makre the roster - they obviously like the kid
no big returns - but looked comfortable and caught the ball well

 - Marquis Lee not given much of a chance early by Henne's odd timed and  badly positioned throws / busted screen play

 - Hurns first catch a conversion on 3rd and 6  -  the kid is legit and ready for the big stage

 - Henne's first pass to Shorts -  a horrible pass

 - Bowanko inserted early for McClendon and made a nice pass rush block - didn't stay in - quick sub - still interesting that it wasn't Brewster (came back before halftime)

 - Bush TD run  -  Marks and Bryant were well blocked to the opposite side of run  -  Telvin Smith might have filled the gap had he stayed at home a split second longer -  Cyprien the same - a little youthful anxiety may have cost us there

 - Second offensive drive  - 1st down - Gerhart run to the right -  might have had more had he bounced outside -  Jags had two TEs blocking but Gerharts cut inside only gained 4  - next play - same play- but  he gets better blocking - makes same inside cut and gains 7 for a first down  - obvious evaluation call by staff

- early poor running from jags wasn't just o-line's fault   - Det LB core was playing well  - Whitehead, Levy, Tulloch

<div>
 - D-rob made two great stops as a gunner on punt duty - 1st one after jags 2nd off. drive

-Branch's INT was a fairly impressive athletic play in that he was somewhat hesitant about his drop into coverage - but quickly read Staffords eyes and made a play on the ball.  It could be viewed as an easy pick for him - but he did everything right.

 - Gerhart's first down run stuffed by a good gap fill by Levy   --- and some mediocre blocking in the middle

 - following third down  -  Bradfield gives up pressure on Henne and he rushes and under throws to Lee who may have been within inches of a first down with a better throw

 - Gratz first completion allowed to CJ  - He misread the stop-route  and thought he was going to turn outside.(fade)   Gave up an 11 yard catch .  not ugly - but not good.

 - next play - Cyp fills a running lane gap and stops Bell for a minimal gain if that - nice play

-next play - Jags LBs stop the flats pass to the FB

-Then CJ gets a push on Gratz who loses footing and its a big first down - Gratz slipped - no biggie

 - screen to Tate catches Jags off guard - looked like they were thinking screen to opposite side and were faked

------------------------------------------------------------------

It wasn't pretty  -- but it wasn't bad either.  The D-line was underwhelming against the run, but the misses seemed fixable. A few reasons to be excited and a few to be concerned about.

I still think with Bortles in Lee plays much better and they can better utilize him as a deep threat. Drob impressed again even in limited action. I take it your watching the replay on NFL Network NYJag?

Also, Detriot's announcers have been awful and just flat out wrong on many facts.
