Quote:Obviously because they don't feel like he's ready yet. Whether that be because of the OL, his reps level, his mechanics, or what not.

You act like its just some whim that they are making the decision they are.

So are you going to eat crow if he starts game 1?

Or more likely blast the coaches for making a mistake?

How's that sitting gone for HOF Mallet?

Quote:So why wait? For what purpose?
For our starting right tackle to be back?

So we know for a fact our line can actually block?

Lock in our starting WR's?

Make sure our defense can actually stop people so he doesn't have to carry us?

To give him time to get 100% adjusted to the NFL?

I can on go if you wish.

Quote:Maybe they want Bortles to sit until they bolster the O-Line in next years draft? Throwing Blake out there behind this offensive line for the regular season might do more harm then good. To Blake that is.

shhhh, this line of thinking goes beneath the surface "me want cookie" thinking that the start Bortles now crowd likes to utilize.

Quote:Roethlisberger initially sat behind Tommy Maddox too.....remember that one?

McNabb sat behind Doug friggin Pederson for 10 games....

Theres definitely precedent here to Gus and Dave's decision, despite the complaints from the low IQ'ers.
your problem is you think you are right because you agree with the coaching staff. just so we are clear, rothlisberger led his team to the playoffs. guess sitting him still would have been the right idea, right? i can name many more qb that started day one who are absolutely great. henne is garbage, he is a career backup that somehow keeps getting to start nfl games. considering that almost everyone, sans a few like you don't agree with the coaching staff, i thinks it's you with the low iq.

Are you really trying to compare a 3rd round pick to the number 3 overall pick?

The biggest thing people forget is that the coaching staff has been working on Blake's mechanics; he not a finished product like Andrew Luck by any means and you'll still see him throw off his back foot and toss a duck every once in a while. Quarterback is FAR and away the most important position on the field and we've seen a taste of how good Bortles can be, so why rush it when the coaching staff feels he's not ready yet. Not to mention the offensive line is dealing with injuries. He'll get his chance to start in the pros soon enough, so have some faith that the coaching staff is doing what's best for the long term.

If Andrew Luck is the finished product, he's a major dissapointment

You do know that team was stacked with talent right? Let alone they didn't plan on starting him that year it's because MAddox went down that he started.

Also no one is arguing that Henne is good we all understand he is bad, most people dont want to rush Blake out there when he is not ready.

They're not "forgetting" that. They've been told that constantly. They simply don't want to hear it. They want cookie. Thats all they can think.

Can you debate without insulting peoples intelligence? It actually shows a lack of intelligence on your behalf

If you told everyone here that on draft night that Blake was going to absolutely light it up in the preseason, but he wouldn't start right away, I'm sure almost everyone would be thrilled that we have a true heir apparent at the position. Gus and Dave aren't building this team to be a flash in the pan, they're building this team to be a sustained Super Bowl contender and part of that is sticking to their plan. It's always better to start him a game too late than a game too early, have faith that the staff who has him playing this well this early knows what's best for his future.

The point was, we were told he wouldn't be ready. Henne should beat out a guy who isn't ready to play.

Bortles looks ready to play, it doesn't mean he's the finished product but he clearly wouldn't be out of his depth.

some of your problems is, you guys expect him to be a finished product before he gets the start. thats not the way it works. development happens when you are playing on the field. there is only so much you can learn on the sidelines, especially now with the rule changes. what do yall expect him to be? he has already proven that he is an nfl capable starter, what do yall want from the kid? what does the coaching staff want from the kid? does he need to throw for 300 yards in 1 quarter and throw 2 or 3 td in that time frame. what does the kid have to do, to show you he can play while also developing. also, offensive line look better or worse depending on who they have behind center. if you have a qb with good pocket presence and is illusive enough to keep of multiple defenders, than you don't have to have the best o-line. if henne gets hurt behind this line, blake will just have to go out there and play behind the exact same line, thus defeating that point if thats why he' not playing. he's already shown that he's not like gabbert in that he doesn't mind getting hit, i think he likes it to be honest.

They drafted Bortles when everyone said not to. They gained my trust to make a good decision

No need that pretty much covers it. And just maybe plan to start him week one, but not tipping their hand to Philly.

It is rare to have crow prepared properly, but if done right is not the worst dish in the world.

Quote:So you think sitting Ben for 3 games made a big difference?

If say their plan worked to perfection. Did they not win the Super Bowl?
