How Good Can Chris Smith Be?

#1

Guy looked great in the first preseason game. It's still pretty early, but I wonder what the floor and ceiling are for this guy. Could be pretty high.

Thoughts?

Anyone who comes off the ball so fast that he leaves you wondering how the refs missed the offsides penalty is going to have a future in the league.

SCARY GOOD!!!! think about it this way that tackle whos suppose to block him is gonna get blown past a couple times because he comes off the ball so fast. Well after a few times of that the tackles gonna over commit the passrush to the outside and if Chris fakes out and spins inside its gonna be a long day for that tackle. He now has to come drop back faster than he ever thought he would and hope to God that he doesnt dip inside.

He was crazy quick off the snap the other night. I don't know what his floor/ceiling are but I feel good that he can be a cog in this defense and a reliable backup to Clemons.

One of the Jaguars Twitter elite, who fancies himself quite the Jr amateur scout couldn't stop talking about how horrible Chris Smith's tape was and how it was basically a wasted pick.

So based on that I'd say not too good.

No idea about his ceiling, but as a 5th rounder, his floor is still 'out of the league' in 12 months.

I wasn't too impressed with his college youtube highlights, he looked a bit stiff to me. He was good against Tampa's backups, but given how bad their their starters were I'm not going to go nuts for him just yet.

Seems like a real Gus Bradley type who buys in to everything though, so who knows. Lesser athletes than him have had pretty good careers at DE.

He had to be timing the snap counts. Was cool to see but he won't get away with that against an upper tier QB. Exciting to watch though

Peyton Manning would've drawn him offsides like 10 times.

That said, he has a motor. He has a bright future.

Hank?

His college tape wasn't good, which is why he fell, but he does have a good measurables. Hard to say how good he could be

He could be the greatest of all time, the worst ever, or somewhere in between.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I saw the one play where he came off the line so fast, and got by the line so easily, that I think he looked at the ref for a brief second before he made the sack and was like "was I offsides or did I really just blow by everyone that bad?"
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I also want to see him against a better OL.

Tampa's OL may be worse than ours!

I think the next couple of weeks would represent a good test.  But I'm excited about what I've seen from him thus far.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

That's pretty much where I think he falls as well.

Definitely has the length and burst you need.

The other stuff can be taught, so that's a good start.

Oh yeah. That guy is a clown.

Just because he can draw arrows on a still image of highlight film, he thinks he's a scout. But he fits in well on that site.

He looked good in one preseason game in limited snaps.  I'll hold out judgment on Smith until he has a little more PT at this level.
